Someday I may start casting for this one too. This is my first ever 30-30 and so far I really like it. Very accurate with Winchester 150gr PP ammo but at $1.00 plus per shot I will probably start casting for it in the future. I need to pick up reloading dies and a mold or two. Any good boolits recommended for deer/coyote?
BTW, this is a 2014 Marlin 336 limited edition and is a very nice gun even tho its not a JM one.

I find the Lee 160 RNGC shoots very well when sized to 309. I would suggest that when you get your dies, you might consider the Cowboy Action seating die as it is designed for a flat point. My CA seater puts a nice 1/8" flat point on my round nose boolit making it safe for the tube magazine. For coyote at a lower velocity, I am using the Lyman 130 gr. plain base boolit at 1350 fps and that same CA seater puts the nice flat point on it as well. My lead alloy is slightly harder than pure but not too hard that it prevents the flattened point. For the 160 gr. I am currently using RE-7 at 1700 fps and for the 130 gr I am using Trail Boss. With iron sights and my old eyes, both loads are better than "minute-of-gallon-paint-can" accurate off hand out to 250 yards. Of course, every rifle seems to have a personality so your BEAUTIFUL new rifle will have secrets of its own to be discovered. Enjoy!!

That looks like a very nice newer Marlin. Haven't really looked at new ones with all the comments on the Remington takeover, except a 336Y several years ago, seemed kinda heavy and chunky, for the short barrel and stock. Decided I'd make my own shorty, bought 3 older ones, and now can't figure which one to cut down. My 1894C has me spoiled, don't think I'll be ever to make a 30-30 or 35 feel that nimble. Now I'm looking for a Ted Williams 100 project gun.
Any way your new one really seems nice, and I'm following the load recomendations.

RD boolit pretty hard to beat. Nice rifle! I bought my first Remlin a little while back and it's a shooter! Not much on the looks but I'm a fan of pretty wood and for most Remlins it's obvious they could care less.

I've had good luck with the Accurate 310170C.

Nice rifle you bought there. Pretty buttstock wood too!

FWIW, I am very happy with the RCBS 180 grain mould. With a load of 15 grains of IMR4227 I shot just at an inch and a half the other day at 100 yards in an old 26" Winchester. I dip lube the bullets and run them through a .313 Lee sizer to seat gas checks. Maybe it will be a good load for you too.

The RCBS 180 grain is about as good as it gets for cast in a 30-30. I used a different but equivalent combo at 188 grains cast and killed deer with it. One at 140 paces from my tree. I used the Lee 185 grain made for the 303 and sized it to 309. Water hardened and then annealed the nose. For a MG barrel one might want to look at as cast. My alloy was about 3 to 1 WW to lead. I flattened the nose with a flat nose punch when I sized them but one would nto have to do that with the RCBS. I am not fond of the lighter weight bullets in cast for hunting. May look good at the muzzle but down range the differences in velocity dwindle. I could get about 2000 fps with this load and RE7 powder. It shot about as good as my open sights permitted.

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. Looks like my next mold will be the rcbs 180. I too like the heavier boolits for caliber when using cast.
