I have an ishapore 2A1 indian lee enfield in 308 caliber, and would like to get either a complete spare bolt or complete bolt head. i know that there are some companies that specialize in parts for british military firearms, but have lost their addresses. Any assistance is appreciated. Frank

Never thought to ask-Does that rifle correspond to the 'regular' Enfields in any way?

It looks like a #1 MKIII but is in 7.62 caliber. Squared off box magazine. Were made at ishapore india. Supposedly they used an improved type steel on there rifles. Frank

According to Gary James, who is a pretty knowledgeable gun man, said that the claim that the India .308 caliber Mk III's have receivers made of chrome moly alloy doesn't hold water because according to him all of the MK III's were. He said it was just a sales gimmic.

Let me edit this: What he meant was they all had been made from that alloy all along.

I can't remeber what, but that is the main difference. I checked them out pretty thoroughly some years ago when they came out, but a few friends who got them did not find them very accurate and the reports I saw in gunzines (Guns and Ammo was one for memory) also said that the accuracy was only so so. Like Col Whelan, I lost interest. Be allright as a bush gun though, what was Teddy Roosvelt's term? 'bully for stout.'
