I had never heard about zinc weights until here on the forum but today I melted down about 90 lbs and found two zinc weights. I kept pushing them under wondering why they wouldn't melt then it hit me what they were. The only marking are a M C on the clip and the 1.5oz. Are they good for anything or just throw in the trash.

i hear they make pretty good wheel weights!
you could save a grundle of them and dedicate a mold, melting pot, and stuff to make zinc boolits with them.

A lot of what is called zinc turns out to be steel in the presence of a magnet. So far I've been lucky, about one pound of zinc in 800 pounds of weights.

Save them and trade them to the recycler for lead weights! Waste not want not!

Like NVC said, they're probably steel but test them with a magnet to be sure. Most non-lead WW manufacture is migrating toward steel in the U.S.

I've got about 1/2 dozen buckets of WW that need to be smelted. When I get around to it I'll take a few pics of some of the zinc that I'm sure that I'll find. I've been finding them in every batch lately.
