Do you reduce the flare on a bullet that has a gas check??

Thanks

I don't. I like to have a good flare to prevent scraping the boolit but not too excessive. You'll need to close it back up of course.

Yes, if I understand your question right. I also crimp in the crimp groove for use in the 35 marlins. That could be for any tube fed rifle, though. If used in a bolt action rifle, I'd still reduce the flare a bit but, not crimp.

I expand the mouths to just accept the full width of the gas check, then seat and crimp in the groove.

No. The correct flare is the same for both.

I agree with Tatume. I flare most cartridges just enough that a gas check will fit about halfway into the neck. This prevents gouging of lead, and also isn't too much for the seating die to straighten out before the roll crimp happens.

Enough flare to allow seating without deformation, but as little as possible to minimize work hardening.
