1903 Springfield, 30-180 SP RCBS, PC and Unique

Put together a 1903 sporter this past winter out of parts I had laying around just for cast. Remington 1903 action, Fajen Aristocrat stock, 1943 Rem 2 groove barrel. Had some time today to play. I have never used powder coat before so I coated up 100 bullets cast 1-16 with signal blue and loaded them with 15 gr Unique with no gas check in some FA59 match cases. The dang thing shot cloverleafs at 75 yards with a 16X Millet scope. Think the groundhogs in the pasture better look out Russ

Nicely done Blanket! I love shooting Springfields and I've also had good success with the RCBS 180 grain boolit. My favorite rabbit and vermin load for 03s is with the RCBS 30-110-RN boolit over Green Dot or Unique powder.

Here's my parts 1903. It is a double heat treat 1903 receiver, 1903A3 barrel and a 1903A1 stock. The action and bolt were given to me and as it was already drilled and tapped, I put a Lyman aperture sight on it. I also put a Lyman Model 17 front sight on it. The hardware parts are all forged 1903 issue. I fire lapped the 2 groove barrel and it really throws Lyman 311299 boolts well out to some pretty long ranges.

Thanks Shilo. I was glad to get the action already drilled and tapped as that way I would then have a match style rifle for just plain shooting. I would not have drilled and tapped my GI issue rifles as they are too valuable in their "as issued" condition.

I shoot this one quite a bit as I have replacement barrels set aside for it when I eventually wear the barrel out. Of course that's going to be some time if I just keep shooting cast through it.

I have an action and bolt as well as all the parts necessary to build another one some day.

Another 1903 fan here and it works good with the RCBS 180 SP.
It was my Grandpas (died when I was 4) hunting rifle gave to me by my Dad. I shot my first cast boolit deer with that gun a few years ago. I'll bet Grandpa was watching down the whole time.
