I have been to waaaay more of those places than I can remember. Since I did not drink, I volunteered to be the DD for the guys that did. I got all the free food and soda that I wanted and got to watch "the shows" for free. My only job was to try and keep them outta jail and get them back on Post when they needed to be. Only had a couple of them end up in the stockade because they got stupid drunk and would not listen when told......it was a fun gig. Good times.........8-)

Back in the mid 80's (there from 84' to 92ish) Hay Street was pretty much off limits. Don't remember Pedro's, but RIP just the same. I do remember the rest of them places, didn't drink much but hung out at a couple to see the bands.

Pope-P-Patch was my first PCS. Wow that was a LOOOOONG time ago. Aug. 1970 till Apr. 1973. Had some good times there. Hunting, fishing was great, bar hoping was excellent, pawn shops were so plentiful you couldn't go to all of them in one day, shopping. Have eaten at Pedro's many time while there and sorry to hear of his passing.

Hay's street is now pretty much the entire police department. Fayettnam bought them all out and built a huge police complex down there. In my younger days, I have fond memories of the cellar, cloud 57 ( just down the street), Pump house ( only for drinks). It was a place for young Paratroopers to get a little wild.

We called it the "stab-n-jab". It would be closed 2 months out of 3. After it would reopen, 3 weeks tops before there would be another "incident". It staying open was almost like divisions training day incentive of a day off if they reached 82 days without a training fatality. Wasn't gonna happen.

That was when you realized that the DI's wasn't not telling the truth when they said that you could put a whipping on any of the legs in town.

Was at Simmons AAF (Ft. Bragg's Army Airfield) July '68 'til June '69 and got my first taste of real Tex-Mex at Pedro's. Anyone else remember the Shangri La Club just outside of Rockingham? Was a hangout for the street racers and 'shine runners...parking lot on Saturday nights looked like an NHRA car show.
