Cattleskinner and I did a little mould exchange, he wanted to try my 287308 and I wanted some soup cans. His soupcan showed up yesterday so this afternoon I fired up the lyman pot. It took a little experimenting to figure the "new to me" mould out. It seems to like a high melt temp and a slow pressure pour. Using the BruceB method it ran like gang busters so long as I poured a generous sprue. I did have to stop once and clean the spout.
I'll post a range report first chance I get.

I LIKE that bullet in several 7MM's I have. The 6 hole mold really turns them out fast. I've tried them in the 7TC/U, 7BR, 7-30 and the 708. Trials with the 280 remington are on going. It seems to be very accurate in some calibers and so-so in others. Depending on hardness, they will work on ground hogs very well.

Wonder how it would be in a 7 x 57 Mauser? Looks like a champ. Is the "soup can" mould a production mould or one of the GB's?

This one was a group buy mould run by Oldfeller IIRC. My intent is to try this boolit in a 7-08.

I weaseled my way into one of those moulds for use in a 7-30 Waters lever action , but have yet to get a Marlin rebarreled to it .

Also have one of the Saeco moulds for a 7mm flatnose gascheck bullet for the same project !

I got mine here ,but they have them "on order" now. A call to mid south may give a time line on them.

How large do they cast in wheelweight metal? I need a boolit that casts at .288 for a 1908 Brazilian Mauser...Ray

You sure that's a 7mm "Soup Can?" Doesn't resemble the .30 "Soup Can" that I understood was scaled down for the 7mm at all.

I am interested in this mold, I have the Lee C285-130-R 2C mold and shoot the bullets in my 7TCU with good results.

Oldfeller did the mould with midsouth so they would be a production type mould that will be somewhat available, similar to the 22 bator mould.
The gbs that he ran he has done with midsouth.

ont he midsouth page you can get tot he design drawings under special order moulds.

they weigh 134.5 grains in WW alloy, measure .2832" on the nose and .2874" on the body bands. They also are rather concentric, only being .001" or less OOR. This mould has not been leemented, so polishing the cavities might get you the .288

What is the length of the nose IE last groove to the end of the soup can? I have a 7TCU on a Sako 75 and am restricted by the ejection port and this bullit may solve the problem.

You are very welcome Jerry. Glad it shoots good for you (shot good in both 7TCU's I used to have). I thought it was about perfect for that cartridge.

Got my order into Midsouth for a soupcan mold. It won't be in stock till the end of the month but boy am I looking forward to getting it. I can see a lot of upset wallaby and possums out there in the bush once I start using them in my TCU (rifle). So if anyone has rifle loads for the soupcan in a TCU could you please let me know.
Thanks Juddy

Still waiting!! Hope it'll all be shipped soon. Shift in the US/Aussie exchange rate has cost me $50 extra waiting for that soupcan. Please let it get here soon.
