I missed one at the local gun show. Walked by and checked it out and put it down, was in 45 colt. When I went back it was gone. You snooze you loose. Frank

If yours is anything like mine, it will like just about any weight bullet, but on the condition that said bullet is sized .460". Don't laugh too hard? For a light recoiling load, the best two combinations I found were either a Lyman 457122HP pushed with 12.0 grs Unique, or a Lee 450gr RNFP pushed by 10.0 grs Unique.

Great score! see if you can get a few different bullets types before you commit to a mold. I had a CVA that didn't like plane based molds or at least the four different molds that I tried with 4 different powders. Try some with gas check some with out. It should be very obvious what your gun likes. Just my input.

Yep sure did! The guy has had it in the box for 5 years after winning it at a Ducks Unlimited banquet. Said he had no use for it.:bigsmyl2:It was only up for 45 minutes! I'm tickled to death to be honest. I want to put a ladder tang sight on it. I imagine I will have to get a tang plate made and inserted/epoxied into the stock to hold the base and then mount the ladder sight to it.Is there anyone who makes a tang plate?

Got my first black powder cartridge deer with one. Gould bullet and a case full of 2f. Now have a Italian Remington Rolling block. The curved steel butt plate on the Buffalo Classic was not comfortable off the bench.

Barnabus, at what distances are your buffalo matches? As that distance might affect how light a load will be effective.

They are 300 yards at my local range but id like to be prepared for much longer when selecting say maybe 600? Would the Lee 405 do at those ranges?

Some years back, I was @ a Gun Show, and picked up a S&W Contract revolver, a Brazilian Model 37. Except for the flat-top frame and square-notch rear sight, it's identical to the S&W US 1917.
this gun was in really nice shape, very clean. I picked it up, and another guy stood right next to me. I looked it over, asked the table-holder the price. The price was right. The guy next to me was so close, I was about to ask him if he wanted to buy me lunch! I pretended to put the gun down a couple of times. Each time, he leaned in. Then I bought it, and the other guy was gone in a second.

Barnabus, I have used 24 grains of 2400 powder with a 405 grain bullet that gives about the same velocity as 70 grains of black powder.

Trailboss works great as a mild load.

The trouble with Trailboss is it has about the lowest velocities with the highest pressures, but it would be hard to double charge due to it's bulkiness/low density.
