Just read the thread on LAR's 50/50 mix, and need to order some, but was wondering if you can mix Lee's Liquid Alox and beeswax and get a useful lube. I'm guessing that the liquid would make the lube too "runny?" Knew one of you would know, though.

Well, Since the lee stuff has solvents in it and is designed to dry to a coating, I imagine that's what would happen during the heating/melting process. You would have a whole bunch of solvent fumes coming off your pot and the end result would have much the same consistancy as beeswax.

Notice what I put in bold... I'm just guessing.

Lee liquid alox is just alox thinned down with a petroleum solvent, likely just paint thinner.
If you want alox- beeswax, just find some NRA lube.

I made a batch of 50/50 Liquid alox and beeswax, and it works fine for pistols and a .44 magnum rifle, pushing a Lee 300 grain at around 1600 fps. If it is too runny, add more beeswax. I have not tried it in any other rifles.
I made mine because I found some beeswax cheap, and the liquid alox was just sitting there.
