I picked up a bout 27 lbs of rectangular peices of dental somthing looks like tin or close to it. They are 1 1/2" long and 1 1/4" wide narled on each end and real thin. kinda looks like the Xray sheets for dental exrays.....Is this stuff tin? or what

Well it ain't lead. Melts at a low temp similar to tin. I melted it already and it melted way below pure lead or WWs temp somewhere between 400 an 500 degs.

the red coffee can is full of those things-

i think I smelted them in with some soft flashing & pipe lead and assumed they were a lead alloy of some sort. I do remember there was some gummy stuff on them, enough to stink up things for a short while. Also, it was breezy that day they are prone to fly off it they aren't clumped together.

I paid pennies a lb for it so if it is pure lead, not a problem. It sure melted fast though. I'll have to look at it closer and maybe test it. I can always cast some BP bullets out of it and weigh it against my known soft lead cast bullets. Hopefully that will tell the tale. I'll cast some Maxi balls (370 gr) if there is tin in there it will never get near 370 grs.

I cast some BP Maxi balls out of this "stuff" and they weighed in at 361 grs so my conclusion is like others it's lead with a little tin in it. My maxi ball out of almost pure lead are 369 grs. I think if they were more tin the weight wouldn't come close to 361 grs.
