Well, it's not all that screwed up. It's my 311440 6 banger. Finally had a chance to break in that one and the Fat 30. Just cast enough for a few shots, maybe 40 keepers each. The Fat 30 did fine once warmed up. The 440 kept throwing odd looking boolits. After a while I had a bunch come out with a split-level base. Whut? sez I. Jumpin' horse snot! There's no front alignment pin! None. Not a one. Looks like it was never put in. And after all the nice things I had to say about the 6 banger Lee's. Ol' Murphy strikes again.

Send it to Howa, tell them Bass said it was okay, and they'll make it right.

I'm contacting customer service and asking them to send a pin. I'd rather not go through the hassle of shipping it back. I only have 1 311440 and things get lost in the mail.

I was teaching a friend to cast with that mold, among others. When the pin came out he got it and replaced it with a pair of needle nose pliars and a small hammer. Need I say he's an engineer?

Gotta work extra hard to keep that pin lubricated. It sticks.

Contated Lee and was advised they wouldn't send me the pins, that I should send it in. I advised since it was a custom, I'd be insuring it for around $150.00 and would want it insured for the same on the return. They think I should pay this. Does that sound right? There were no pins in it to start with, couldn't they split the difference?

I would tell Lee , "fine, don't insure it but you are responsible to ensure that the moould is returned to me. If it is lost or damaged, they must replace it." They ship UPS, anyway, and the first $100 of value is automatically insured. Each additional $100 of insurance is only (IIRC) 25 cents. We're not talking big bucks here.

This was a good lesson, I looked each and every 314-120 over to make sure the girls put the pins in.

I am wondering if the cavities are cut right ?? they use the pins to line the two blocks up to each other don't they ?

Yep, the pins & bushings are used to align the mold blocks to cut the cavities -- any mold missing either a pin or a bushing is an instant send-back.
