Over the years I've cast for 22,30,32,357/38,375,44,458. But I've always used gas check as all my shooting is done with rifles. What I'd like to know is what speed a plain based bullet cast with #2 alloy can be driven at. I use White label 2700+ lube. :???:

I've found over the years that PB cast bullets can be driven with good accuracy up into the 1400-1500 fps range with #2 alloy and a good lube. I've no experience with your lube so I can't comment there. I mostly use Javelina. With the larger .44 & .45 calibers in rifles with slower twists hunting accuracy can be had upwards of 1700 fps or so. These are top end velocities and are dependant on the harder alloy and perfect bases. Also without any over powder wad, filler or other attempt at some sort of non-attached GC. Best accuracy at 100 yards with PB cast bullets out of rifles almost always falls around 1400 fps or 1050 fps.

Ramslammer---I have a gas check designed .22 mold RCBS_58 grainer that I have shot bullets without the gas check in the 2000-2200 range no problem. This is with pure wheelweight--water dropped and felix lube.

I shot some hunters hard cast (name of company) in 170 grain without gas check in a 32 winchester special at around 1700 fps. Major leading problems. Slowing down to 1500 fps and it was fine.

oneokie---Nolan my old 44th edition Lyman Manual( copyright 1967) lists a min of 11.0 with max of 13.0 IMR 4227 with 58 grain cast in .222. I load em 12.0. The velocity listed is 2096 with 11.0 grains and 2364 with 13.0 grains. I don't have chronograph but the book says they would be in figure I listed. I'd have to look at what load I use but I shoot same bullet in 22-250 about same velocity.

I suspect he was reacting to your typo rather than what you actually meant.
