Can anyone tell me the general alloy makeup of Dive Weights? I have an opportunity to get some locally, but don't know the make up of them.

Good idea or not?

used to make mine from wheel weights. be carfull with dropping them into molten lead some times there are voids that get water in them when your under preshure under water.

The father in law ran a dive boat for years here in Long Beach, if it melted he used it for dive wieghts!

Usually these were ww both clip on and stick on types. Used to have the molds but I think I gave them up to one of the kids in the family

I'm thinking ww or pure lead and quite honestly 98% sure they'll be ww.

Heed the warning about trapped water! some of the sport fisher guys, spears and harpoons, had no fear of 120 to 140 foot depths of Catalina. Thats a bit of water pressure!

So what can I do regarding the entrapped water possibility?

Just don't add a solid one into your hot melt, start them out cold. Put them in the pot and turn on the heat, any water and vapor should have a chance to escape as they heat up.

Dave, I have about 80 lbs of them here, from several different makers, given to me by a friend who used to dive. They run form 8 BHN to 20 BHN. I'd suggest that if the price is to your liking, get 'em then melt 'em into one homogenous alloy. You can then add to as you desire to harden or soften, but I'd bet money that you'd get plenty of shootable boolits with no muss, fuss or alligator puss.

John,
The guy just told me he had 6K pounds of these. He asked how much I wanted. I just emailed him asking the best price he could give me for them. I'll keep you guys posted.
