Howdy gurus of the lead boolits.

Quick question for you all.

For weighing out powder charges I use my Lee balance beam scale and am quite happy with it. Getting into boolit casting, I need to be able to reliably weight and sort cast boolits but my lee balance scale only goes to 100 grains.

Does anyone know of an inexpensive digital scale to weight boolits? I would want it to at least go upto 250 grains. Being an accurate powder measure is not really important. I just want to be able to weigh and sort out bullets I am casting. I have looked at a bunch of different ones on Midway, but most people's applications are for powder measuring.

If at all possibly, I would like to spend under 40 bucks. All I can find from reviews are ones that are hundreds of dollars or junk to people who are trying to use them as powder scales. Any suggestions?

The gem pro is very good but also above the $40.00 limit you specified. with the cheaper scales it isnt always the accuracy of the unit but they drift and you are constantly rezeroing. The gem pro is around $125.00the 250 has a good range and reeads to .02 grain increments. Look at jewelers scales also. I did alot of looking and reading reviews a few years ago looking for a new electronic scales. Theres alot out there from labratory grades to barley useable, Internet search and read the products description and any reviews. I chose the Gem Pro 250 for my use as powder scales and other weighing chores.

I use the Frankford Arsenal DS750 scale as well. I like it so much that I have two of them. I often use it as a supplement to my old RCBS balance beam.

Great little scale for weighing small charges of lead shot, or cast boolits with for what it costs.

I don't use electric scales, I through them out didn't trust them anymore. As stated earlier they wonder. I have and use a RCBS and A Lyman balance beam. They do it all for me.

I've been using the same Pact digital scale since 1993 or so and it has been quite reliable and when comparing results to beam scales, as accurate. It really speeds things up plus it is easy to get average weights for thrown powder charges by throwing 10 or 20 charges, weighing and then dividing by the number of charges.

have both the Frankford arsenal and Ballistiscale. Like both of them and they match in measurements.

If I had to chose between them I would go for ballistiscale as it goes to 1500 gr

Thanks, jmort. Just ordered one. Will mark it "not for powder". For sorting boolits, should be fine.

I love my lyman Micro-Touch 1500 (http://www.lymanproducts.com/lyman/scales-measures/Microtouchscale.php). It zeroes quick and easy, it's accurate, it works well, can be plugged into and outlet or used with batteries. I did a lot of research on it before I bought it and it was one of the better scales for the price. There are a lot of others but once you get any more expensive you are either paying for the name or bells and whistles.

If you get one and it doesn't work quite right send it or take it back to the store and get another. It's a common theme with all the digital scales that on occasion you might get a lemon as with all electronics made in china. Don't let that discourage you as the next one will be the most handy set of scales you have ever owned. Treat it like a fragile egg and READ the directions and you will love it. I have a lyman beam scale and my buddy has an rcbs beam scale and we tested both to the lyman and it reads on par with both beam scales as long as the surface is level and you aren't weighing in a breezy location. Also don't breathe, sneeze, or fart while weighing with this scale, it picks up on everything lol.

Well if you are happy with the Lee scale, you are easy to please & any of the cheap dig will work. IMO though, if it isn't about $100, it's gonna have issues. So if weighing something is important to you, buy quality like the Dillon or upper end RCBS or Hornady. The cheaper scales all drift. You may get lucky & get one that does not, but that is my exp owning several cheap models before buying the Dillon. The FA & cheaper Hornady were particularly bad.

I'm very happy with my Lyman 750 digital. The Hornady 1500 went wacky after 6 months.
