View Full Version : Thoughts on 2-6-92 alloy?

I am looking to try cast boolits for hunting loads for the first time in my .30-06. I'm comfy with near-pure lead loads for my big bores, but this is new territory for me.

A commercial caster I know uses a 2-6-92 alloy.

I'm after some feedback for how this should perform at .30-06 velocities in deer or bear. Would I be better off with a softer boolit? Should this be fine? I want excellent expansion for maximum knockdown power.

That is a good alloy. Typically harder than necessary, and less than ideal generally. But for what you describe, it would be a good choice at ".30-06 velocities." I doubt you will get "excellent expansion" with it. I prefer two holes, one in and one out and don't believe in "knock-down" power per se. I trust a larger meplat more than expansion.

Should be just about ideal for general rifle shooting and casting. When I alloy up my lead, I try for just about that, although I'm not adverse to a touch more tin.
