I'm sure it's been asked (or told) but my search turned up squat?

Thinking of building a Blackout AR, not suppressed at this point (maybe later), for personal defense.
Thinking of a middleweight bullet (150-180 grn) at low to moderate velocity (1000-1500 fps).
Just want to know results from experienced users in the perimeters I've described. thanks
Standard M-4 Carbine configuration (16" barrel) simple build, no-frills defense weapon.
Successes and/or failures will be helpful.

Please don't take this wrong but if you are building it for personal defense only I would use factory ammo based upon what parameters you set. Why limit yourself with a low powered reloaded round (too low velocity) when your life could be forfeited? Me, I don't think that overkill is overrated so I push the 300blk to it's maximum capability with CB's.

The 300blk is a nice and capable round and I currently have 3 AR-15's which I often use for hunting and plinking. My experience has been that 150-155gn CB's with a good meplat pushed to around 1800fps do the best on feral hogs.

There are possible legal issues if you use handloads for self defense. My vague recollections is that they only apply to police officers and are an invention of a desperate defense attorney, but I wouldn't take chances. Soft point factory ammo should be satisfactory for defense.

blikseme300; that's good CB info, thank you
for all legal concerns , thanks again. I currently use a 41 Mag stoked with 215 SWC's @ 950 fps, which is considerably
less than any available 41 factory loads, duplicating that energy will certainly be adequate for my needs.

I have pistols for SD. IF I wanted to shoot slow BO I'd go all the way with 220 & up. For that you need a pistol gas port.

I like the 311041 in my BO. Cycles good I need to check accuracy next, just getting it to go bang first. :)

too cold for lots of testing.

I have had very good success if the 311041 mould. Running 15.0 gn of H110 getting an avg of 1750fps. Cycles nice and hits HARD.
