I'm attaching several pictures of bags and horns I've made over the years. I first bag i made over 35 years ago was made because I was to poor to pay attention. it started me on a hobby of leather working that has been rewarding and profitable. It has been a lot of fun. I thought I'd share some images with the folks on this forum. Thanks for looking.

Very nice bags and day horns.
Have a few unused commercially tan deer hides here and too have a question please:
How or where does one find a Pattern to cut a flap over (beaver tailed) bag with?

Been using a T/C bag for many years. Cow Leather its made of is too stiff in the extreme Minnesota cold.

I've been blessed to be able to make my own patterns. I'd be glad to share them with you.

Those look as nice as anything I've seen at Friendship.

You truly have a God Given Talent, and you use it well.

I've made a few bags, also - and I'll tell you how I came about form/shape.

I get a few (un-used) large brown paper bags from a grocery store, and open the paper bag along the seams in order to lay the paper flat on a table.

http://blogbuildabear.files.wordpress.com/2012/11/3.jpg

Any shape is easily drawn on the paper with a lead pencil (I make the pattern a tad larger than wanted, to allow for stitching/etc).

Once you arrive at a shape that pleases you, it's easy enough to cut out what you've drawn, to use as a pattern for cutting the leather.

Before cutting expensive leather, the paper pattern is easily folded into a rough shape for the bag, to determine if you like the pattern you've cut out.

The 1st/largest piece for the bags I've made is a singleton that incorporates both the back wall of the bag and the front flap.

A gusset that spaces the front of the bag from the rear is a piece about 2" wide, and the same length as the distance around the outside edge of the front or rear bag wall, tapered on both end down to about 3/4".

hdskip, those are nice and even the supposed flawed one I would not mind carrying in the woods. spent a lot on time in central Virginia, mostly around Crozet.

I'm just across the mountain near Staunton. My sister lives in Basalt. You must be in the eastern part of the state.

Any one of them would look nice hanging off me, squirrel hunting with my 32 cal caplock.:kidding::mrgreen:

Great looking bag-sounds like a line out of a Mel Brookes movie.

Sorry-it's this medication. I have been thinking on how to go about making one of those. Am half tempted to go to the thrift store & buy a purse, cut off the fru-fru stuff & call it a bag. The one you made looks like one I wish I could make. Great job!

Those are beautiful. I have a little tan deer skin around. Might give it a go. I'll be studying your photos for inspiration.
