SEMA submitted comments in opposition to the regulation and met with the EPA to confirm the agency’s intentions. The EPA indicated that the regulation would prohibit conversion of vehicles into racecars and make the sale of certain emissions-related parts for use on converted vehicles illegal.

Easier to hassle gearheads than Red China and Airlines.
One of the reasons I'm still driving my 1968 Chevelle Sports Coup, No emission equipment ! No electronics either and now I've even removed the mufflers and am running straight exhaust pipes. (talk about sounding good).

I'm not required to pass any emissions test ....Sweet !

If something is fun, you can bet the government doesn't want you to do it.

I wish I still had my Mopar 225 slant six, built that motor from the block up, outlasted 3 different bodies and was still running strong when I sold it after 180,000 miles. I needed to keep a spare voltage regulator and a spare resistor in the glovebox, but I could reach everything on the motor to work on it without having to pull the motor (unlike all of today's cars). When I sold it I had a spare transmission and 8 tires on rims that went with it.

Actually your 68 Chevelle does have an emission system, PCV came along in 64 or 65 IIRC. One of the most effective systems to date and little if any effect on performance.

Here you go - been going on for over a year and the EPA / Gov't doesn't give a rats behind about it. It's just easier to hassle the people over negligible Bull *&$#...
