My uncle gave me some brass, bullets and one of these. He said that it was for a 30.06 rifle he sold long ago. Any info on what it is would be greatly appreciated. The only thing I could think of was some kind of clip. Thanks in advance!

8 round en block clip for the M1 Garand rifle, made by Springfield Armory. I think.

Same as above-- with ammo made in Des Moines, If I am remembering the codes correctly, (note DM on cartridges)

DM only produced during WWII and CORROSIVE. Save it / display it but don't shoot it.

Too bad the rifle was sold. Would have been a good one to keep in the family.

Well now you need to purchase a M1 Garand.

They are no more corrosive than any other .30-06 round in the moment of firing. The trouble comes later, in an uncleaned rifle. If you don't think they are worth saving for collector value (not much now, but later who knows?) flushin out the bore with hot water would avoid any problem.

The Clip was indeed made by Springfield.

The nomenclature of the actual rounds is M2 Ball. 150 grain FMJ at about 2,700 fps.
