I received the cleaner today. Read the directions and this is my question--

The instructions say use the basket; don't put the material directly on the bottom of the tub. The basket goes all the way to the bottom of the tub so the cases are only a wire's distance from the bottom. I can cut a couple of plastic chopsticks and attach them to the bottom of the basket to raise it off the bottom. Will the added 1/4" make a difference or is the basket on the bottom OK?

Basket on bottom is fine. I've used mine extensively that way with no issue. If it's a plastic basket be prepared to replace it periodically. Metal baskets I haven't had an issue with.

The tranducer that causes the vibration is cemented to the bottom side of that metal tank.
Objects bouncing on the tank bottom are essentilly pounding on the ceramic material ... slowly pulverizing it.

The basket prevents that ...

Higher end cleaners have baskets that do not reach the full depth of the tank.
Those keep the 'dirty stuff' in the region where the cavitation (of the cleaning liquid) is strongest.

Placee some foil suspended vertically in the tank a hair off the bottom. After a short time, holes will appear showing the areas the ultrasonic waves are concentrated. I found mine works best if the basket is about 1/2" off the bottom.

I found this this off the internet when I was searching for a basket for mine. Who knows?!

The basket I got with the cleaner allows 9mm brass to fall through. Harbor Freight doesn't seem to have baskets. If anyone replaced their basket, where did you get it?

I have a Harbor freight, and it has a basket. Works well too.

This actually brought up a question ffor me - size. I have seen these things from 1/2 liter to 5 gallons. What is a good size for the average handloader? I dont need to clean 1000s at a time. A few 100 maybe

The HF 2.5 L does 250-300 9mm per load. Cost $79.99 not on sale. A couple of cycles with dish soap and citric acid gets them clean.
