I bought several lee molds & had a little time so I fired 2 of them up and cast some bullets using free range lead. I ran 1 lee mold an a second mold (a 2-cavity h&g #41) at the same time.

Left: the bullet I'm asking about, it'ssupposed to be a lee custom mold. The bullet weighs 172gr and is .432 with the scrap alloy.
Right: is a lee 160gr button nosed wc, The bullet weighs 161gr and is .4305 with the scrap alloy.
Bottom: is the 110gr h&g #41 button nosed wc. The bullet weighs 111gr and is .359 with the scrap alloy.

Several of these molds look the same. I could put the bullets I cast into the other molds and they fit perfectly. The bullets is .432 the whole length of it including the longer nose. I'm thinking about turning the bullet around and using the nose as the base of the bullet. That way every bullet will have an excellent base. I have a 2-cavity 200gr 44cal wc mold that casts an nose pour bullet that extremely accurate.

I'm hopping this bullet design will perform as good as the 200gr bullets pictured above.

Has anyone seen bullets that this before??? The molds have the older yellow sprue plates and the only thing the boxes say is custom and the mold # written in hand.

Anyone???
Interesting, figured someone here would know what that bullet is/was. The molds have to be at least 10 years old.

The only way I can tell the difference between the molds is the "dot" in the corner of the mold. 1dot/2dots/3dots/4dots/etc.

That's a neat mold you have there. I have a old Lee 162 gr WC mold. Shoots nice. Especially with cream puff loads in 44 special and mag. Though I tend to use my Lee 208 gr WC molds more often. They seem to shoot a tad better in my revolvers. That said, I use the lighter WC to get a few more boolits per lbs when lead gets scarce.

Thank you for the reply Duster,
I've seen your 44cal wc collection before, on another website. I've always been envious of them, very nice!!!

Any time I see odd wc molds I always buy them. Especially 4 or 6 cavity molds, they make a pile of bullets in a hurry. 4 of the molds I bought are like the mold I pictured above with the dot. They all appear to be the same. I went thru the archives here and found nothing in the group buy section. Was just hoping someone might have a little info on the bullet itself.

I guess the history of the design really isn't that important, performance is. Planned on doing a little testing in the next month. Hopefully I end up with a couple loads that will rival the old cramer mold/wc that I have been using.

Yep, like you I have a soft spot for them old odd ball molds. I've yet to come across one like yours. Maybe s "one off" custom piece? In any case, Nice find man! definitely update the thread with any details you may find. I'll keep poking around for info as well (you got me curious now! Lol).

Take Care

Finely got a little time to get to the range and do a couple of test loads. 25* and 10+mph winds, 2 different powders and 2 different bullets to try to get an idea of what these wc's can do. Simple enough 6.0gr and 6.5 gr of clays and bullseye.

While not excellent by any means the custom bullet (left) did 1 7/8" outside to outside and the both bullseye loads with the 162grwc did 1 5/8". Basically the 1st time out with these bullets testing 4 loads and a revolver they've never been used in before in 25* weather, 3 out of the 4 loads tested would hold the 10-ring on either of the nra 25yd targets.

It's a start.
