Drove to Grices Gun Shop in Clearfield yesterday. Plenty of .22 ammo on the shelf. Blazer was $30 a brick, CCI SV was $42.
They also had CCI Mini Mags and Remington Golden bullets s well as 4-6 other brands. The drought is over.
They also had pretty much any powder you wanted including Varget (bought 3 pounds), Unique, Bullseye, 296, etc.

Same here. Gougers are still buying it all up I assume. I check several stores every week. All my rimfires are just wasting safe space at this point. Can't bring myself to shoot up my .22 stash, gotta save it for the grandkids once they get big enough!

What's 22LR?

What's 22LR? 22LR: that would be ammo you can't easily reload thus you actually care if they have it in stores and at what price. Still not seeing it regular in Wal-Mart but also less on the scalpers table at gun show, and prices are drifting lower at the show.

What's 22LR?

Ammo made of unobtainium, fairy dust and unicorn horns.

Instead of complaining that "my local big box store has no 22 LR". Why not give Grices Gun Shop a call and have them ship a case or two to your door?

It is getting better in my area of WV. But we all know that election time is right around the corner.

If Hillary or another Demokrat gets elected, we can all forget about the availibilty of ammo and components, I believe it will be time to "lock and load" with what we have at hand, because things are going to get ugly.

I have a lifetime supply of .22. All bought pre-Obama at 11-13 per 500. I was an early hoarder. Still, I see it here quite frequently, but at insane prices. Powder has become normal.

My grandfather told me about the 22 Long Rifle, he even said in the old days you could buy 22 CB caps, 22 shorts, 22 longs and 22 Long Rifle. And you could walk into a store and buy them off the shelf. And there was no limit ! He kept talking about "bricks" but not sure what a brick has to do with it, bricks are used in exterior wall construction.
I don't think all that stuff is real, just the crazy old man telling stories again . Or maybe it was something I had in a dream, it was a nice dream too.

What's 22LR?

Lol, I was wondering the same. Must be-
22 long range?
22 looser rounds?
22 leper reviver?
22 long route?
22 limited retirement?
22 licorice rounds?
22 lace rangler?

I dunno... ain't been able to figure it out myself. Sure are a lot of threads about it here.
Must be one heck of a cast shooting round though.

I have a box of .22 long. I think I will keep it, they might never make them again. I am not talking about CCI CB longs either but I have some of them too. This box is Winchester .22 long hi velocity.

I don't think it will come down in price and up in availability until we get shut of the worlds best gun salesman. And even then it may take a while. The first six months or a year people will still be in shock and will be hoarding like crazy. I know I am saving my pennies for a few more bricks.

There was a 22 lr shortage?
Just kidding. I have been in good shape on my stash but I did buy a brick of yellow jackets and a brick of stingers a couple months back at an estate sale. Iirc I think around $60 a brick but honestly, how long has it been since you've seen yj's or stingers?

I've bought ~20,000 rounds over the last 2.5 years to feed a new M&P 15-22 and 617. Mostly Federal bulk packs, but did buy 2k Winchester M22 and 2,500 CCI SV. Never paid over 6 cents a round except for the SV. That was 7.6 cents a shot. Passed on plenty of Golden Bullet, Wildcat, Thunderbolt and a few others I don't care for. Had plenty and passed some along to friends. .22 has been available the whole time. No, you couldn't just walk into a shop and expect to find your choice of brands on the way to the range, but guys that are used to scrounging for lead should have been good to go.

Haven't been to town for a couple weeks but its still dry here. I don't buy into the old retired guys buying & reselling. I'm old & retired and I never see those guys hanging around. Have bumped into a friend once looking for a box or two so he could have fun with the grandkids. Commodity prices are dropping like a rock, maybe we will see trickle down.

I know I can go into town and buy a brick of 22LR between $45 and $65. At that price, I'll pass. For what little 22LR I shoot, I have enough on hand. Most of the 22LR I is use is for different classes. Lately, no one wants beginning rifle/pistol classes. Everyone wants either CCW or the high speed low drag classes (and they can't put 3 rounds on a paper plate at a 100 yards). A couple of times a year, I take a bunch of kids shooting, I provide the guns and ammo (22LR), and they go through about a brick a time. These are the best classes I teach. I'm glad I bought a bunch 22 while it was $15 a brick.

22 ammo is hit or miss around here ,the gunshops that have it are still pretty much gouging .theres a few sporting good chain stores that have it in once in a while it seems like when 1 of them has it they all do, and when 1 of them is out there all out. and then theres Walmart the last 22 ammo I bought there was wwb 222 rounds for about 10$ I didn't go crazy I bought 1 box the sale was rang up by a kid behind the counter that was probably younger than my youngest kid ,he carded me ,I said really ? he said yes so then I jokingly said that's the 1st time ive been carded by someone young enough to be my kid .he then proceeded to inform me with a smart a$$ aditude that he was just doing his job and if I didn't like it I should go buy my ammo elsewhere . I told him with an aditude like that that's why he worked at Walmart and he better get comfortable because he'll be there his whole life then picked up my ammo ,receipt and change and walked away

My Cabelas has a shelf full of 22. I bought 1k Winchester for 59. No, I'm not a hoarder. I actually needed it and there it was. I only keep about 3k 22 rounds on hand at any given time. When I go thru 1000 I try to restock it with another 1000. But, I only shoot maybe 1000 22/year. 22 is my least consumed cartridge. Since I can't cast it or reload it, it's way too expensive :)

Local indoor range has bricks most of the time for $30 not great but not aweful! The only stipulation is they prefer you shoot it at their range at least some of it so they can get a lane rental out of the deal. Walmart, sportsmans, & north 40 have been getting it in lately but as soon as they do people post it on Facebook and it's devoured by the vultures.

I stocked enough to last a lifetime before Obama was elected, or even heard of for that matter.

Then I got married and had kids. So hopefully one day my .22lr needs will skyrocket, and I buy when I can, for that future use.

don't like to admit it but ive been buying whats available on midway. Ive picked about 10 bricks there so far at about 70 bucks a brick after shipping!!!!! Only thing I have in my defense is that a lot of it is sub sonic stuff that wasn't cheap to begin with.

I'm assuming by a "Brick" you mean 1000rds? 59 for a 1000 didn't seem so bad. 70 is a little steep. Now if you're brick is only 500....then that's highway robbery right there. I've seen it cheaper than that at gunshows!

If you are paying $70/500, just hit me up and I'll go buy some and ship it to you for less than that...and still make a profit. If it costs me 120 + tax = 128 for 2000, I could turn that around and ship it to you for 10 bucks. So if I charged you 188, I'd make 50 bucks and you'd save about 100 bucks. No wonder people are buying this stuff up. If there's people willing to overspend like that, I guess there's people out there willing to take advantage. That's nuts.

One thing the shortage has forced me to do is realize how silly it was to stock up on the cheapest of cheap stuff. I have a good deal of remington golden bullet.....it's junk if you use it for anything more serious than tin cans.

For a little bit more money, I could have stocked up on Federal Champion back when it was $0.03 per round in 50-round boxes. If I could do it over again I'd have 10K or more of that stashed back. I was paying $0.02 for the junk remington stuff and thought it was a deal.

If you think you hoard.......... A few months ago I traded 33 boxes of SK Jagd Standard Plus for a Mec Grabber with 8 fold crimp starter. I paid $115/case back in the day. If I had more I'd do the same trade again. Now if you want my Match or Wolf Match Extra your out of luck.

yup its 500 round bricks. Like I said though you have to keep in mind that this isn't bulk rem **** its stuff like rws subsonic and fed match. thing is id be more then happy with about anything (other then Remington) as I already have plenty of subsonic. But none of the standard stuff like blazer is ever for sale there.

The drought is not over around here!

There is a kid working the sporting goods department at the local Walmart who has never seen .22LR. What the heck, he's only 18!

me too. I broke into a 500 round box of them last month and had the ar22 out with them with a can on it and had to chuckle. About half of them are subsonic and have supersonic. Take the can off and pay attention and I could tell the difference between them. Some even didn't have enough poop to run the action. They would have to be the last 22 shell in the US before id buy another box of them. Sad thing is that's all the local gunshop has on the shelf and they want 50 bucks for a brick of them. No thanks id gladly pay the extra 25 to get better stuff from midway.

After Obama was elected and ammo sales went crazy, I chrono'ed some Golden Bullet .22.

From my 5.5" barreled Ruger MKII the low was 865, hi was 1036, for ten shots. The low wasn't just one shot; everything else was scattered between the low and hi shots. Average was 970.

On the same day, Federal Champion had a low of 1030 and a high of 1080.

I have some much older Golden Bullet stuff I've never chrono'ed but it seems to be more consistent.

I got CCI AR TAC at $23 for 300 at one shop...limit one. A shop in my home town had it at $30..all the cash I had on me! I didn't know if it would cycle the ADVANTAGE ARMS 22 conversion on a GLOCK 17/34 but it does.

I'm loading 9mm with home cast boolits for 5 cents a round, but I'd like to shoot the 22 also. Picking up brass even in 2 inches of snow is hard on arthritic fingers.
