Here's a pic of my "just got it" 32-20 1873, which is on the bottom; my 44-40 is on top. It's shooter grade for sure, took it out for an informal get acquainted range session & it functioned just fine & shot straight. I was practicing on steel targets, so didn't really wring it out, but it sure was fun to shoot! I did take it down before I went out & the parts were in good shape!

Not a thing wrong with a well used Winchester. It's fun to look at them and imagine all the country they've seen and how much meat they've put on the table. During the depression, hunting saved a lot of folks from starving.

Congrats on your "new to you" Winchester.

Greetings
Used a 3rd Model 73 in 32 WCF for years to pop ground hogs and any other critter that I could see. The 115 grain FN bullets are good for shoulder and head shots on big ground hogs.
I use either a near case full of 3F or 5 grains of Unique. Those two loads have launched more cast 115's than I can think and never hurt the 73 action. Plenty of thwap on pest critters out to 35 yards or so. Cases will last a long time if you only neck size.

Very nice, congrats! Definitely a pair to be very proud of. Wish we could all sit around and listen to the stories they could tell.

I know! I never intended to buy any 73's & now I have to look for a 38-40! Lol

All you have to do is look in my safe, lol. You can even shoot it as soon as I get around to a bit of casting and loading. But no, you can't take it home. ;-)
