I'd try around 9.5 grains for 1050ish, depending on bbl length.

Harsh fact: Molds seldom drop bullets at their stated (nominal) weight, they are generally heavier, sometimes lighter. So starting data for bullets of 240 to 270 grains would be safe starting points for a "255" grain bullet. That is why we always stress starting well below max data. This point is stated many times in every loading manual.

so i can take a starting load for even a jacketed bullet of heavier load and just keep it under 1000 ft per sec:mrgreen:

Jacketed bullets commonly raise pressures. The general "rule of thumb" is that jacketed bullet data is safe for cast bullets of the same weight. The converse is NOT true. Here is Alliant pressure tested data for 240 gr cast bullet:

My old 45th edition Lyman book gives data for a 250 gr with gas check. #429244.
Unique starts with 7gr for 819fps. Max load at 12gr for 1200fps. That's from a 6 ½ barrel S&W 29.
I've shot 8gr of Unique behind a 240 gr SWC for 940 fps in my Colt 6”. That kicks enough to make my tennis elbow flare up after a couple hundred rounds. So I'd say anywhere from 7 to 11 gr. Then if you want more power get some slow powder.

Depends upon what u want to do w/it.

24 gr IMR 4227, 429244, ww brass, WLP primers. Great in a 10.5" SBH. OK in my 4 5/8" SBH. Killed a few deer at 50 to 155 yds. manageable recoil compared to 296, H110 and 2400.

Lotta folks gripe about it being dirty, but I am more than a little partial to 2400. I drop Elmer Keith's old hot special load of 18.5 under the RCBS 250 K.....cloverleaves at 25 and it doesn't give you wrist dropsy either!

I can't believe no one mentioned the reloaders reference software put together by one of the esteemed members of this website. This is some great software for a serious reloader. Lots of data and space to keep up with all your supplies.
Anybody remember the link to download??:-D
