A friend of mine asked me what this Interarms Mark X in .243 is worth....
Here are the photos he sent me.

Owners manual
http://stevespages.com/pdf/interarms_mkx.pdf

It's made by Zastava and looks to be from... what... the 1980s?
24" barrel, 2lb trigger (owner says), bedded, scoped... blah, blah, super-duper rifle...
He thought it was worth $500-$1000... I told him it's worth $500-$600 max.

What do ya'all think?

I bought one in similar condition about 12-13yrs ago for $400, except mine was in .30-06, and was a bare rifle (no sling, no rings, no scope, etc). Wish I'd kept it, but got talked out of it.

I'd say the rifle only would be worth between $350-400 for most buyers.

These re are good solid made Mauser action rifles.

.

To determine a current value, I would suggest surfing ONLY sold/closed guns-only auctions for another Mark X in like condition, to find out how much somebody's been willing to pay recently for one - keeping in mind that "asking" prices, "opening bid" $$$, and "BIN" (Buy It Now) $$$ are NOT a value (they are a seller's starry-eyed dream).

I have a Mark X in 7x57 Mauser....beautiful rifle...one of the ones made in Manchester England....it's in super condition..had a set of rings and bases on it with a hard case...I bought it for $450 and felt it was about on the money...added a nice scope and it's a terrific gun....limited market in a way because it's not "tactical".

Many times, a value of a certain model of gun is caliber specific. I can say, I don't know much about the Mark X in 243, except, if it's rare for a Mark X to be in 243, it could be worth quite a bit more than you'd expect.

With that said, I had a Mark X at my "live" Gun Auction last April. It was a very nice condition, all original 375H&H and had a minty Vari-X III 3x9-50 Leupold scope, but it didn't have as nice of grain figure in the buttstock as the 243 you have photographed above. I expected my rifle alone was worth about $600 and the scope around $400. So I was surprised when the winning bid was over $1400.

Excellent advice!

It could be rare in .243, I don't find any listed anywhere... That said Interarms imported a lot of these by various manufacturers and that has a lot to do with resale value.

Also local sale versus internet auction can make a huge difference too.

What I'm seeing is the Manchester made Mark X rifles fetch a higher price.

buddy just picked up a like new 06 for 400 bucks. I thought he did well but didn't steal it. I had one in 243 back in the day and it was one of the most accurate rifles ive ever owned.

I would think around $400. These are great rifles, and can usually be found at a bargain for what they are.

I paid $375 for mine (in 243) at a gunshow in late 2013. Near new condition with sights present and a similar scope (3-9x). That one looks like it has some nicer wood then mine so should be worth some sort of small premium. Nice rifles in my opinion.

Don't know but I like the Mark X & have owned a number of them & still have 2 or 3. Never had a short action, usually 375s or bigger but I would not hesitate to buy a nice one like that for what has been mentioned as prices. Contact me if he is selling.

All Mark X's were made in Yugoslavia (yes, that factory that no longer exists) and imported by various import companies such as Charles Daly, Interarms, Parker Hale, etc. None were made in Manchester, England. I have owned numerous examples of them, both complete rifles and actions (Interarms sold actions for custom rifle builds). I have an Interarms that is a .338 Win Mag (which was never a factory chambering) and a Charles Daly rebarreled to .338-06. The .243 Win. is common. That rifle posted by the OP should be worth $450-550 without the scope. Parker Hale specimens may bring a higher price because they ordered a higher grade finish from the factory.

Edited to add: all actions are standard Mauser 98 length. .308 family ctgs. have a magazine block. .375 H&H rifles are "opened up" by the factory in the same manner that a custom smith would do to a military 98 action.

I sold a 7mm for 350 two years ago. It was mint. I had it listed for almost 6 months.

I'm late, but I bought a manchester Mark-X in 7x57 with a Vari-XII 3x9-40 on it in 2009 for $550. I don't know if I overpaid, but the value I have gotten out of that rifle far, far exceeds what I put into it. I'd love one in 375 H&H.

Congrats on helping a buddy out.
$400 seems acceptable

I watched one last year, no scope or sling, in 308 norma mag that looked to be in similar shape sell for under $350.
The mauser action from what i read on them is supposed to be very good.
if i were in the market for one i would look in the $400-$500 range i think but no more and i would have to want an interarms.

Looks like everyone was in the same ballpark. Thats a beautiful rifle stock.

I had an early model Mark X that was in 7 Rem. Mag. It was a real nail driver with my `J` bullet loads. A friend talked me into selling (dumb mistake for me) about 15 years back. I hear that he has decreased the game population in both Wy and Mt using it.Robert

With that Vari-XII I don't think you overpaid if it was in good condition.
