Hi,

Although I have a hard time working with my hands, I am going to try putting a PID together.
Is there a parts list for everything I will need to do it somewhere?
I know I need

PID controller
SSR with heat sink
a box to put it in
a probe (im guessing a K probe?)
some kind of plug to plug my pot into the PID

How long of probe do I need for the 20lb pot?

Thanks for any help

Thanks,

I'd be curious to see what components you found. You know doubt discovered though it's not a difficult project at all.

You don't have to have it but if you want to add lights and switch and fan like I did.
grab a 6 gang bus. It's easer then trying to wire nut all the different gage wire together.
If your just going basic, you won't need it.
I also put a fuse on the incoming lead and out going. (Again, not completely nessary).

someone pointed me to this page

Amazon has everything I need to build it (son in law is going to help when the hands hurt)
No lights, but I will use a fuse... still considering a fan in the encloser.

You certainly don't need a fan. Use a 25A or 40 A SSR with a heat sink and they won't heat up.

Get a couple of K type probes, in case one goes bad on you.

If I put it in a metal case, can I do away with the heatsink?
Will definitely get a couple probes..

A heatsink is highly suggested. The SSRs get a lot hotter than you think they will. While a metal case is a heatsink to a point. It's not designed to dissipate the heat. The heatsink is added insurance.

Thanks dragon, I will definitely put on a heat-sink.... maybe a small CPU fan to help cool it.

Yes! I agree.
Nothing more frustrating than have the probe go bad during a casting session.
