I have one of the Browning 1895s in 30-40 Krag. I would like to use a similar weight in cast as the orginal 220 gr bullets. I intend to take this rifle hunting and was wondering if anyone has used the NEI #65? This is cataloged as a 210 gr FN. Or how about the Lyman 311290, does anyone have any experience with this one in the 1895? I know I need to measure the throat to see what I have to work with, but just wanted to know if anyone else had already worked with cast in this rifle?
Thanks
Jim

I have a Browning 95 in 30-40 and have put several thousand cast bullets through it. I have had good luck with Lyman 311291 and 311284 as well as RCBS 165 Sil. I also have a heavy (210) grain FN made by Mountain Mold.

I size my bullets .310 as the rifle chokes on .311. The rifle proves to be a 2 to 2.5 MOA rifle at it's best. This is still very good accuracy for such a rifle

Mine wears Ashley/XO sights front and rear. Recently Mic Mcpherson of Cortez Colorado do an action and trigger job, change the butt stock to attatch with a through bolt and install the most georgous black walnut stock I have ever seen.

I use 55/WC872 which gives me 1.9 to 2.0 K fps depending on the bullet used.

I'm glad to see other folks are enjoying these fine rifles.

I have a browning 95 in 30-06 and a Winchester re-pro that I had Dennis Olson rebarrel to 35 whelen. I haven't shot 5 rounds in the Browning! but, the whelen has had a few down the spout.

I'd like to have one in 30-40 but never had a desire for a 405.

jump, I fired one 405 winchester 95 ONCE. Shoulda known I was in trouble as the owner was wearing a Past shoulder mounted recoil pad. Like I said once. That crescent steel buttplate let me know it was there. OUCH. Frank

Gentlemen-

I'd appreciate more feedback please. I've laid hands on a Browning 1895 and want to have it redone to .35 Whelen.

Chargar- After having Mic do the work with the throughbolt attach for the buttstock - are you able to discern any difference in accuracy? It is one of the mods I'm currently contemplating.

Jumptrap- How do you like the Whelen conversion? Any info about your experience with CB's in this rifle would be appreciated. Any things to watch out for in the conversion? What were the deciding factors in your deciding to re-barrel vs. re-bore. Any other insights about this you would share would be welcome.

Thanks (in advance) for your feedback!

Best regards-

Sky C.
