Alliant Varmint is not listed for anything above a 55 grain "J" word. The max listed load for the 223 with 55 is 24.7 grains. My rifle like the 55 grain with 24.5 grains with the 1-7 twist. Now for my question. Would a load of 24.0 grains of Varmint behind the 62 grain FMJ be a safe load? Not worried too much with velocity just plinking and paper punching. I got the cheap (about 6 cents each) and want to shoot them with what I have. I have 7 pounds of this powder on hand. Any help would be appreciated.
Everyone on here is so helpfull. BTW I get full function and no leading with 20.5 grains of this stuff behind a 58 grain GC acww boolit. Accruacy not too good but still working on the load.

Thanks guys.
Albert

Power Pro Varmint isn't listed in my version of Quickload
Hornady's 9th lists max of 26.8 with 55gr, 26.1 with 60gr. and 25.4 with 68gr. I think you'll be just fine.

Wish I could help....but my version of Quickload doesn't have Varmint in the powder table. FWIW - Using AA2460 as a substitute (fairly close burn rate), and using a Sierra 63gr bullet with the weight modified to 62gr, you would be around 46,000psi and just shy of 2,900fps. GIANT disclaimer, of course: This is a slightly different powder than what you're using, and we'd have to know the exact bullet profile to get a closer estimate. If it were me....I'd probably start a bit lower and work up. YMMV.
