The spirit is strong but the flesh is weak. I surcomed again today to a weakness of mine. ( BUYING GUNS ) I feel like an alcoholic that " Needs just 1 more drink "...........

I was at Larry's Guns in Huntsville, AL today and looked one more time at a NIB , Ruger # 1, Stainless , 308 Win.

Yep ! ! ....You guessed it, the rifle followed me home.

Slide Show below of the rifle :

I've already tapped a 311284 into the muzzle to see if my nose dia. on this particular bullet of .3015 fits the barrel.....BINGO , FITS JUST FINE ! !

Looks like many spring days at the range w/ load development on this one.

She's a beaut Ben.

I have such a weakness. I've just stopped looking. I'd go plumb broke on buying guns...

Ben, looks like a dandy. I seem to suffer from the same affliction as many fine rifles and hand guns follow me home, the best cure I have found is not to visit them at the gun shops . But seriously do they offer sights on the stainless models or not . I have seen a couple at shows and shops but all had nude barrels. Good luck and good shootin' James

James C. Snodgrass & Pat :

Thanks to you and Pat for those nice comments.

Depends on which Stainless model Ruger # 1 that you're buying, some come with sights, some don't.

I looked at a Stainless Ruger # 1 yesterday in 6.5 X 55 mm, it had metallic sights on it. My .308 Stainless does not. ? ? ?

I wanted a 308 No1 right and wrong many years ago, but they didn't make them in 308 then. Good luck with it.

I"ve got over 20ea., .30 cal. bullet molds to try in this rifle. Looks like many ( enjoyable ) trips to the range.

What is the current time there in Australia right now ?

Thanks,

Ben

Your in Central, so add 2 hours and change the sign. ( IE: if it's PM here, then its AM+ 2 hours there) At least it is in QL where my wife's parents live.

Re: the sights issue—
The various barrel weight configurations seem to determine whether they have open sights. The light and medium "sporter" models have the Ruger rear ramp with flip-up sight and front sight; the "standard" models have the Ruger rear ramp and no front sight. The "varminter" models have blocks only.

Congrats, Ben—according to Ruger's website, the .308 stainless isn't available any more (I'm glad I got one last year).

I went to Ruger's Web site....Retail on our stainless # 1 rifles is now $1140.
I was " out the door " on mine new in the box for $700. I bought the last one...........

Yes, you're correct , the .308 Win. isn't listed anymore.

Ben:

I must admit, the grey/white laminate stock is sort of growing on me...at first I'd planned on using a dark walnut blank I have and restocking it (it seemed to glow in the dark). Now I kind of think it fits with stainless. All I really wanted was a 1-V in .308...

I've fired 5 shots with it so far, but this is convention season and unfortunately getting a magazine to the printer on time has killed any hopes of range time.

Let's keep in touch in a few months to compare notes.

Richard :

I shot my Ruger # 1, 308 Win., Stainless today. Here are links to pics of the targets, tell me what you think ?

Yes, let's stay in touch......I'd like to know the loads you're using & the groups that you'll be getting with your rifle.

BTW....I did a little bedding work to the fore end on mine before it had a single round fired from the rifle . I didn't like the way that the fore end was bedded....I think you'll agree after looking at the groups below that the bedding work that I did on the f/end seems to agree with this particular rifle.

Here is another group fired with the Lyman 31141 that was HP'd by Buckshot :
