Callshot was saying all the Cottontails would be gone, well I waited for another snow storm & went back to my favorite spot & there were tracks every where. Rabbit tracks, coyote tracks & one set of Bob Cat tracks in the fresh snow.
I've mentioned before my honey hole is along a road where the county dumps all the road kills & there's a cow moose there, along with several deer that have been hit by cars & trucks so its a magnet for predators looking for a snack.
I probably hunted for only 45 minutes, saw 5 rabbits & got all 5 with 6 shots. One of the long shots was on a bunny that wouldn't stop running around & when he finally did he stopped on some dry ground instead of snow. With my 70 year old eyes thats a bad shot for me, I can see them until I get behind the sights & then they fade right into the surrounding cover. I held where I thought he was & hit him but it wasn't a center hit. I slipped out of the truck & Indian upped on him in the heavy sagebrush. After 3-4 minutes I spotted him facing me head on through the heavy cover. I took the only shot he gave me & hit him right between the headlights, dead rabbit. If there's a better rabbit sixgun than the 32 maggie I'd have to see it. Accurate, quiet, cheap to load, easy on the meat but as deadly as Callshot on a free cheeseburger! My load is 3 grs of WST & 100 gr SWC that has been powder coated. I've taken many, many rabbits & grouse with that load. Runs about 950 fps from my gun.

Would you talk about the load you use? Bullet, velocity, grouping , and effective range?

Thank You, Dale

This takes me back to many many years ago when I was able to hunt the bunnies. The places are simply gone now. Due to houses cropping up, and predators. Thank you for sharing, and I know you now well enough that you will be enjoying them in some tasty form or fashion. That is one excellent combo of load and gun you have there. High Fives from Texas !!!

The load in my 32 maggie is 3 grs of WST with a 100 gr SWC thats powder coated. This load runs about 950 out of my gun, kills small game like a jackhammer but you can eat the bullet hole. I seldom go 100% but the fresh snow gave me a great background with the iron sights. This load is very accurate & many times I've taken rabbits & ground squirrels out to 40 yds with it for a rest. With 70 year old eyes you always have to have an edge.
Last week I also took several in the same spot, same gun, same load.

Looks like some fried rabbit is on the menu. I used to have beagles, they liked to chase rabbits and I like to eat them. That sure sounds like a sweet caliber.

I've got a pretty good crop of bunnies here at home. Deer season will be over at the end of Dec. All along I've planned to take my 32 mag for a walk when time permits.
My eyes are only 60 yrs old but were never really good to start with. I can't remember my exact load, 3. ? Unique and the 31108 Runs 750 fps, don't need earplugs, shoots to the sights exactly and is far more accurate than I am.
Always good to hear from you Dick.

Dick, you keep making it happen out there. I am sure impressed. Wish we had a decent cottontail population here.

Dick;
Love this whole thread but your post really reminds me of "the ol' days" before I was too old and feeble to do much hunting. I, too, have been an "early adopter" of the .32 H&R mag. I have a TC Contender, a Smith 631 (my choice in a rabbit gun) and my 16-4 S&W with 6" barrel and Red Dot Sight. I also like the .38 Special wadcutter load for edible small game (full charge wadcutter) and my 60-4 (3" barrel and adjustable sights) does right well in that regard.

Right now, I am working AGAIN with the .32 Magnum with two new bullet molds. One is the NOE version of the RCBS 98gr. SWC (just received the new mold) and have a 100 gr. dbl ended wadcutter mold coming from Mihec. I plan to run the RCBS at two levels: one at about 950 fps (like your rabbit load) and one at 1200 fps. The wadcutter I plan to keep under 850 fps (the load maximum for our club indoor range).

The Holidays and the weather will dictate when these final tests are run. I'm lookin' forward to it with anticipation.

I really like those grips. who made them?

John, I make them, those are made from Holly. For several years I had them on an OM Ruger 41 shorty, killed a lot of game with it including several hogs so I had a hog laser engraved on the right panel. For the last 5-6 years they've been on my 32 maggie. I've never touched them up since I first built them 12 years ago. I sell quite a bit of Holly stocks but don't engrave them.
