I have been tinkering around with my old model 14 rem in .35 cal. just wondering what sort of accuracy to expect out of the old girl. the 50 or so shots I have tried have have all landed in the 1.5"-2.5" groups at 40 yards with iron sights.

1.5" would be fantastic. 2.5" ain't real bad. Working up your loads and your shooting - not disparaging your shootin', but maybe it could improve (as anybody's might) might fine tune it into a real accurate gun. Sounds like there's not much wrong with your gun.

Unless the barrel is badly pitted or the crown is banged up, the gun can do the job. My model 14 will keep the 195gr Lyman 358430 in 3" easily, 5 shots, 100 yards, off a bench, with peep sight. Velocity is about 1400, if I remember correctly. Didn't even take much load development to get there either. I did learn to keep the front bag under the action, not the for end, for best accuracy.

I am in bad need of working up a load for my 141 .35. Stopped by the gun store to pick it up on the way to the hospital when we had my baby girl 2 1/2 years ago.

so far it's kind of looking to me like you can't go wrong. my barrel slugs at .358 and the mold was throwing .3575-.358 bullets and I didn't have any gas checks yet so I loaded up 5 or ten just for fun and shot a 3"-4" group at 40 yards. then I lapped the mold out to .360 and lubrisized the bullets to .359 and added gas checks. 22 grains imr4198 pushes the bullets to 1600fps ish and shoots 2" groups at 40 yards I shot some of them with gas checks and some without and had no leading. 33 grains of imr4895 shoots around 1800 fps and I shot a really good 3/4" group! But it could be a fluke since it was only a 3 shot test at that load. I did get leading with the imr4895 33 grain load when I tried it without gas checks. I will maybe load some tomorrow and shoot 100 yard targets with it. I was just wondering what kind of accuracy to expect out of the gun. I don't want to keep fiddeling with different loads if this is as good as it gets. my dad always loved love loved his model 14 and I can see why now that I am shooting it a bit. it is a super well balanced light easy to shoot gun.

Could be a good(er) lube and using the gas checks would solve that leading.

I have a 141 and it is accurate enough to shoot a deer at 100-150 yards. One thing to note was that my 141 does not have much throat in front of the chamber. Had to seat bullets (Lyman 358215 I think) deeper than the crimp groove or the gun was hard to close. Little marks from the rifling on front band when I took them out. No leverage closing a pump.

One wonderful gun! Wish I had one. I worked on a few and it is a great rifle. You are doing good with opens.

I shot some 5 shot groups and at 100 yards yesterday and i am shooting 4 inch groups with 22 grains of imr 4198, and 3 inch groups with 33 grains of imr4350. i had the same deal with the bullet being hard to chamber and seeing grooves in it when i tried seating it out a little farther. so ya it has to be all the way in to the crimp groove.

I tried some more shots with 34 to 36 grains of imr 3031. bullet is 197 grain lee 35 rem lapped out to .360. velocity was 1900-2000fps and barrel was leading at muzzle end. bullets sized .359 with aluminum gas check and BAC lube. the shame is the first few shots at 35 grains were awesome groups before the leading started then accuracy went wild. I wonder how far down I will have to lower the speed/load to stop the leading. I want this as a deer hunting round.

I have a Model 141 in 30 Remington, so I can't really speak to the second subject here, the 35 Remington. Still, my 141 with cast boolits (Lyman 311141) will hold about 3 MOA for 10 shot groups when they are propelled to about 1,800 fps over any suitable powder. Accuracy holds out to 200 yards and probably further, but given its purpose, 200 yards is as far as I've shot it. It enjoys and old Redfield aperture sight which is helpful for speed and accuracy.

I'd love to find a good one in 35 Remington, but all that I've looked at over the years were ridden pretty hard and put away wet. Some day...

Sounds like you're running out of lube. Have never used BAC but it's supposed to be pretty good stuff. You may have to change lube to run at that speed. Are you getting a lube star with you're 35 grain load? Regards, Woody

Don't know how it would do in a pump gun, but H335 was more accurate than 3031 in my Marlin 336CS.

You might try a tumble with Ben's Liquid Lube after sizing and lubing. The extra skosh of lubricant just might cure your leading.
