I cast .594" diameter minies for use in my .58 Roberts cartridge. Here is one next to a .22 short. Does that qualify?

That's what I'm talking about and to add to the coolness factor I've never heard of the 58 roberts. Nice.

The 58 Roberts dates to the late 1860s. I have a Remington rolling block chambered for it.

My guess they are for a small muzzle loading cannon.

My biggest cast boolits are for the 50/70. I have both a Lyman and a Lee mould for it. They are a bit smaller than the 58 Roberts round and drop at about .516" diameter or there about.

I shoot them out of an 1870 Roling Block US Navy Rifle (Springfield Armory) and an 1870 US Army Trapdoor Springfield rifle.

Here's one next to an 87 grain 25/20 boolit. They are the smallest and the largest cast boolits that I play with.

I only cast for my big bores- 44 and 50.

I have five molds that keep me busy. I have two heavy Lee WFN in 310gn for the 44 mag and the same Lee 440gn 1oz slug that you also cast for the 500 S&W. I have an MP 502/385 cramer style mold that I cast mostly the penta HPs out of and a similar Mihec cramer mold for the 44.

My first mold was a 260gn devistator that is slow but makes the most wicked looking and accurate boolits for my 44.

I have the cost down to below 9¢ for my 500 S&W slugs and that is with gas checks and lube. Here's a pic of the 44s

It's like they say- casting and loading won't make you spend less, but you'll shoot a LOT more! This is especially true with the big bore and magnum stuff. I shot 50 full power S&W magnum rounds and over 100 500 specials this week- cost me less than a box of nice 44 mag.

Penta hp's now that gets me excited enough to go and buy one. So many years reloading and I've never heard of one. Your right on the cost, 20 years ago I told everybody how much i saved on a box of 44mag or 30/06 but now it's about never being without ammo in a drought and being able to craft 60 unique cartridges for just the fun of it.
