there are no lube grooves or crimp grooves.

my mold drops at 311...is there any way to make the boolits smaller?

by fiddling with casting temperature?... or magic?

has to be .3085 after powder coating.

It should be as simple as running it through a sizing die.

Is there some factor I'm missing that complicates things?

If you're really worried about it, you can have a minor effect on diameter by changing alloy.

How about one of the lee .308" push through sizers?

.311" to .308" easily in a Lee push thru sizer.

What are you loading? .308 Win? If so, .311 may work just fine.

The limiting factor on how large the diameter can be for most cartridges is the throat area of the chamber. If you have a fired case from your gun that was near factory pressure you can measure the inside of the neck to get the max for that chamber neck. The boolit or bullet has to release when the gun is fired with no impingement from a tight neck.
A lead boolit at .311" will go thru a .3085" bore normally with only a slight increase in pressure. Alloy hardness will affect the pressure also.
I use many .310" boolits in .308" bores and they work very well.
If you powder coat the .311" boolit and then size it the boolit will be longer than before sizing. If you use a Lee push thru die of recent manufacturer to size you may have to polish the taper leading up to the section that actually does the sizing. These are rough enough sometimes to scratch or remove the coating.
