Can anyone tell me how to remove poweliks virus? AVG keeps popping up every two minutes telling me it has been removed. The AVG site was no help to me . I am no good with computers . Should I lose everything and start over?

Any time you get a new anti virus get rid of your old one. My brother repairs computers and he said most computer problems with being slow are from having multiple anti viruses.

More than one anti-virus really kills performance. Aside from the obvious overhead of everything and anything your computer tries to do has to be reviewed twice (once by each AV program) you also get weird simultaneous access causing contention that sort of locks things up while the two programs fight over the file.

Avast as a running anti-virus with Malware Bytes available for scanning is a good combo. Might also look into the free Microsoft Security Essentials that gets pretty good reviews. MS Security Essentials also offers a boot CD that allows you to start the computer from an anti-virus CD and scan without the infected operating system being able to interfere. You ever find yourself with a really badly infected computer that is a good way to clear it.

Norton 360 here. Nothing else....free or otherwise. Norton has protected all my personal and business computers for well over 14 years with ZERO intrusions or problems.

Thanks for all the advice,I have an old laptop my daughter threw away a few years ago. I am slowly learning to use it. I was about to debug it with my 8 pound hammer.

You got that right! Friends put it on their system and I finally had to resort to revo uninstaller and a search of the registry to kill it!

NOD32 here, it's slim and fast for the most part, small footprint, doesn't take control of your system like other stuff does.

Norton was good about 12 or so years ago. Now just a bloated resource hog.
Changed to Trend Micro Internet Security in 2004 till Microsoft Security Essentials came out, Both were great.
Then in 2012 changed to IoBit's Advanced SystemCare Free for a few months and liked it enough to buy PRO and that is now my choice of Internet Security.
