This is the second washing of my patches for my .54 caplock pistol.they land right in front of the target, I can't (not) reuse them!I figure fourth time is a charm.

A couple are cleaning patches and yes some are a different size.I'm no to careful when I make them,as long as they cover the ball!

Waste not, want not. While I can't say I have reused cloth patches, I used to reuse the plastic poly patches in the 70's. If you could find them; they worked about as well the second time, after that not so well.

As long as the cloth is staying together, I really don't see a problem with it.

if the soap, water, and the value of yer time add up to less than the cost of new patches you are just bein' economical. if not, then yes yer a cheapskate :redneck:.

I'd like the one that is in the bottom row and next to the last going left to right please . . . when You're done with it of course! I have a hole in my jeans I need to patch!

No . . . I wouldn't say cheap . . . I think "frugal" is the word? LOL Your a man after my father's heart . . . anytime we tore things apart on the farm that had nails in it . . . we had to save the nails and straighten 'em out in the vise or with a hammer on a steel block so we could "recycle" them. Guess patches really aren't any different . . . :-)

What you said plus...

Doesn't anyone use a patch knife and only cut the patch after the ball is started? If you use a precut patch, do you sometimes get one started off center? I know it is know big deal and does not matter.

I sometimes use a patch knife.I don't have a problem centering the pre cut patch though.
I've not seen an accuracy difference one or the other. It's a bit cold out here in eastern Washington and I prefer the pre cut patches in the winter time. One less way to hurt myself with a sharp item with numb hands.

Or maybe your reply wasn't necessary or helpful and should have been kept to yourself...

Cant say I've reused a patch but have noticed many looking good enough to do so.

Never thought of reusing them. Might have to try it.

if you really want to get long life out of patches get some tight woven linen and cut your own, they are hard to wear out and last a lot longer than cotton.

Next match I go to I'll check out the ground after the match, may never need to buy cloth again. Just the same as picking up brass.

life and free time are both way too short to be wasted on recycling any kinda patches. but ymmv, i'm sure, and that's just fine.

Frankly sir: To garner the label as someone being cheap,_ not to be confused with being frugal with the reusing of your patching._You need to considered scooping up your un-burnt powder laying on top the snow? Now that surely is > a CHEAP Skate!!

It takes hardly any time to pick them up. And very little time to wash them.I use spit as lube, with other oil based types it may take more time to clean.
FYI -I shot those in the pic up today and sadly three were torn and un usable (frown )
