Well, I came back from deer camp for our 40th anniversary and took Mrs Lightman out to eat. We had a great steak at a nice steakhouse. Now we are watching Mississippi State whoop up on Arkansas. I'll probably head back to camp in a day or two. Retired life ain't bad!

Lightman, I beat you by 6 months! Congratulations! You must have, like me, married an angel. For whatever reason just had the best talk I've had with my wife tonight in a long time. She's still the sweet, foxy (before there was hot) girl I married so long ago. The difference is that she knows me better than I know myself.

I am fairly sure Mrs Jeff will shoot me before we hit 40 years. Only to wound of course. Just to remind me who the boss is. [smilie=s:

"Marriage is finding someone you want to annoy for the rest of your life."
I have a different definition of marriage.
"Marriage is the collision of opposites, that results in a fine and pleasant misery."

congrats to all of you long time married people. My first one didn't go well and soured me for 15 years on doing it again. I met a good one though and will be with her till I die but theres just not enough time left to make 40 years unless I live to be a very old man and I lived a bit to tough of a life to expect that:bigsmyl2:

Thanks for the kind words everyone. Yeah, I got lucky and got a good one. We got married at 18, so the odds against making 40 were pretty high! My profession as a lineman had to make it a challenge sometimes, what with the long hours and around the clock call-outs. She's never complained about all of the missed dinner dates, birthdays or holidays that I missed due to a call or a storm. You'all have a good weekend!

At least you didn't ask her to go on the call-outs.

jsizemore, actually she did go on a few, and kind of enjoyed getting out. After the kids left home, she would ride with me sometime at night or on the weekend, or if I was really tired. At night or in bad weather, she would sit in the truck and play on her phone, or on the computer. That was probably against the rules then, and really is now. Sometimes, it might be the only time we saw each other during my call-out week!

Belated congrats to you both on your 40th! My wife and I are headed towards 44 next August. Glad you had a good steak dinner out to celebrate! Coming home from deer camp is truly dedicated and committed! Something some of the young folks could learn a lesson from. Ain't nothin' sweeter than spending a lifetime with the one you promised to love forever!

Congratulations on your 40th wedding anniversary! Today is my 30th wedding anniversary. When I had been married for 25 years I had some guy tell me that he didn't think anybody had been married for that long anymore, its nice to prove him wrong.

Well happy anniversary, and many happy returns. A buddy just celebrated his 50th, and had to leave deer camp for it, too. He's a very lucky guy, and got a truly wonderful woman. I gave her my deepest sympathy, and she just laughed. Good folks. Yours must be mighty good too for yours to last 40 years in this day and time. Good on ya' both! My next will be my 47th. It sure doesn't seem like it could have been that long!

In todays world husbands and wives are disposable. It is good to see so many people enjoying their wives for so many years. Congrats Lightman. I just gave my wife a Rugar Bear Cat for our 35th. She is now a gun owner.

Well, we didn't exactly say that we "enjoyed" them... :) More like "put up with"... Better the evil that you know than the evil that you don't know... Or something like that, I guess...

Congrats! Forty is a mile mark in today's society. It takes two, but it has been an amazing 48 year ride for Mama Bear and I. God has blessed us and I thank him for her and the family she birthed for me and the suffering of putting up with me all these years.

I tell everyone that when she leaves me, I am going with her.
