Who currently has the best price on large pistol primers? I need to order several thousand .

Reading mixed reviews on Mag tech and Wolf. Not certain about them ? ? ?

I've got Win. Large pistol spotted for $115 for 5 K + a $20 Haz. mat. fee ? ? ?
That would put the price at $27 per K delivered to my door. That seems high, I guess I'm still remembering the $8.00 per K primers I bought 15 and 20 yrs. ago. Guess those are the good old days and not to be again..........

Thanks,

Ben

That's not too bad for these days. Last time I bought 5K the price was $75 a few years ago. At the gun show in Huntsville it cost me $26/1000 for magnum small pistol. You could save some money and order with someone else near you and split the HAZMAT fee. That would shave a couple of bucks off the price per K.

yep now is the time to splurge and buy a bunch...its the best way to cut the overall cost...just stock up now......the shipping will not go up much, but the hazmat is spread around the more you buy.
i'm looking at buying about 10 sleeves(50k) just for that reASON

I still have a box of CCI L R primers marked $3.95 And they still go BANG. Has anyone figured out the HAZMAT scam yet. I just checked Midway and Midsouth and both say ON ORDER for almost everything in primers. Wideners seems to have a good supply of Wolfe primers at about $20 per K. Guess if I want to :Fire: that is where I will have to send my money. BWB:castmine:

What about the Wolf primer ? I'm new to Wolf. Are they dependable ?

I have shot some of the Wolf primers, they all went bang. I cannot tell you much about anything else, had some issues with my powder measure so all my data up to replacing the measure I think is suspect.
Buy all you think you will need now, the wonderful "green" primers that are coming will be even more expensive. I vote for Powder Valley, good prices and service.

I get mine locally for around 24-25 dollars a thousand and no hazmat . That for Winchester and CCI with CCI being about a buck more than the Win. .

Haven't bought primers for years. Heard of the "shortage" and after a survey of prices online (+shipping+Hazmat), visited my local shop and bought Federal 210s for $22/K which I thought was pretty fair.

PM me if you want more info on them.

What can anyone tell me about this lovely new green primer? I have heard rumors for nearly 15 years now on environmentally primers with a built in shelf-life, and have yet to see any, or hear of any actually being found.

I find it hard to believe in a primer with a built in shelf-life. I think it would cause too many problems keeping them separated form the law enforcement, and military loads.

If there is anyone that is in MO and is interested in doing a group buy to offset the hazmat fees let me know. The best I can do at my local gunshops is $30 per K. I didn't get to go to the big Tulsa gun show last weekend, but was told that Wolf primers were selling for $20 per K. I did have my father pick me up a thousand LRM's, but from what I have read the past few days I wish now I would have had him get several thousand. I was worried about the quality of the Wolf primers.

Best Wishes,

:confused:Primers seem to be semi difficult to get at least in the Kansas City area. Me and a pal just bought 20 k and it came to 495.50 thatswholesale + tax. The haz - mat scam as one fella put it is a personal pain in the aXX I do drive a truck and am required to have the endorsement and haul it daily ,The F.B.I. background check ,the finger printing and the cost of it all is going to be absorbed by every one. I had to pay 98.00 for the background check and 76.00 for my new C.D.L. after I was contacted by the government to tell me that they couldn't prove I was born in the U.S.A. . Now if I wasn't born here plus I had a (secret) clearance while in the U.S.N for over 5 yrs. I wouldn't have been mad but to be told your a alien at 40 will piss you off. Let alone the bogus F.B.I check you go thru every time you purchase a fire arm. So long story short I had to get a certified copy of birth, and parents marriage, Now I'm safe to haul paint and batteries. James

I believe that Natchez shooters supply is about the cheapest right now for mail order. You might do better at a Sportsmans warehouse if you have one close by.

Ben,

Try Powdervalleyinc.com....they have competitive prices, and usually have what you want in stock. A lot of vendors seem to be "out of stock" a majority of the time.

Boerrancher...I've been wanting to get a reloaders group started for that purpose...big orders of components for better prices/split hazmats. Since you're in East central MO, have you tried Graf's in Mexico MO? Never been there in person, but website looks like they have everything. If you're in driving distance, you could pick-up your order and avoid hazmat. If I can get a group together, I'll PM you.

Cheers

James,

I am a ex-Army Officer and at one time had a Top Secret, and then for this last tour to the sandbox let it drop to a Secret. While I was on my way back home for my 2 week R and R, was nailed at airport security for having traces of gunpowder residue, and plastic explosives on my boots. I had just gotten off an all military flight at Atlanta and was in my desert uniform. I am on the no fly list now, and have to go through all kinds of BS at security every time I go to get on a commercial flight, even when I was still on active duty and carrying an ID and orders.
With the crap that our government imposes on it's law abiding citizens, it is amazing that officials like Sen Obama still don't get why Americans " are disgruntled and cling to guns and religion."
I love my country, love the constitution, but Hate and distrust my government and all of its agencies that the American public has little to no rights to redress or file for grievance against. I understand your frustration with the C.D.L. process. I only hope and pray the some day the American people will wake up and refuse to be run roughshod over by their gov like they have been since Socialist President FDR and his New Deal Senators, Congressmen, and activist Judges, started subverting the constitution.

On the second of May I have to go to the VA Hospital in Columbia, I was thinking about going to Sierra Bullets there in Sedalia, but It is just as easy to head to Mexico instead. I only have about a thousand of each type of primer. If I can get them for around $20 a K in Mexico I will go there just to avoid the Hazmat fee.

That place is in St Louis. I get up that way from time to time. I would not be opposed to a group buy. I only have a few questions to ask:

1. What brand of primers?
2. Can you pick up orders?
3. Is there a better price break for taking 15, 20, 30 thousand in a mix of the various types?
4 If they are Wolf brand, I can do better at Gaf's in Mexico MO on the price.

I have the wife stop at GRAFS' on her way to visit her sister in Moberly. She picked up GOEX black powder, an 8 pounder of TITEGROUP and some primers last time. Check the website and then give them a call with what you want and when you'll be there to pick it up. I like them better than Midway.

I'm just south of St Louis, off I-55. The local shop, Dunn's in Pevely, had plenty of Winchester primers at $26.99 today IIRC. (I had to run past for a boolit puller...malfuntion on the Dillon 550B powder drop!) Some of the other local guys aren't showing any primers on the shelves....I cleaned out two shops' display of about 10 thousand small and 4 thousand large pistol...at $22!

If I was into CONSPIRACY THEORY, I'd say this is back door gun control. If you don't have primers or powder, eventually you're out of ammunition. Maybe I need to take inventory and get a wish list for the Mrs. to take to GRAFS' next week!

Sportsman's Warehouse by me has been out of most all primers just about forever now. I still have one small local shop that sells WSP & WLP's for $22-24/M when he has them, which is sometimes. I've found better stock & about the same prices at the local gun shows. Miwall usually has them & sometimes I find another guy that has them for about a buck less.

I have cleaned out all of the local gun shops, and am down to about 1k of each except for small rifle, and I have about 200 of them. I have about 1200 rounds of .223 loaded, and then about 100 rounds for my 25-20. I should be in good shape for ammo that takes small rifle primers. I Just need to stock up on lots of Large Rifle, Large Pistol, and small pistol. Mostly Large Pistol because I have booth a 45 LC rifle pistol combo, and a 44-40 rifle-pistol combo. I shoot them a lot. I always carry a rifle pistol combo with me when I am out working the ranch. I border a state forest with lots of public access, so I need the pistol for the 2 legged varmints, and the rifle for the 4 legged ones that won't come in close enough so I can get at them with the pistol. Living in the Meth capitol of the world and in a secluded area has given rise to being invaded by more of the 2 legged varmints. I have to practice quite a bit with the wheel gun or I can't hit squat, and I am constantly killing coyotes with the rifles.

A couple of weeks ago the Sportsman's Warehouse in Mesa had some CCIs in stock. I bought 1K each of LR, LP, SR, SP at about $26-28/K. I wasn't out of anything, I just wanted to be sure I didn't run out. I'd like to get some large and small bench rest primers, but they don't seem to be available anywhere locally, and I'm not up to spending the $$ for hazmat. I'll just have to wait.

Stew

Boerrancher,

If you're going to Columbia, you can order ahead and pick-up from Midwayusa.com and save the hazmat....I've done that myself. They seem to be out of stock on what I want frequently though.

If you go to Sedalia you can get bullets (j-word type) from the Sierra outlet. They are sold by the pound, and sometimes (often) don't have exactly what you want. It all depends on what they are running at the time. Handgun bullets don't usually last long. You can also get a tour of the plant (very interesting).

As far as Wolf primers go...I have no experince with them. I usually buy CCI or Winnie.

Cheers

Alchemist,

I was one of the first to take a tour of the Sierra plant when it first moved to Sedalia in the late 80's early 90's. It has been several years since I have been there. I had a contact on the inside who use to send me new stuff every once in a while to field test. I was the first person who was not a Sierra employee to shoot the Palma match bullet. I have always been a Sierra fan. I have never had one fail on any shot much less one that counted.
When I go to Columbia in may, I will most likely take a detour to Mexico and go to Graf's. They have primers at $19 per K. They are Wolf, but some of the folks I know who are shooting wolf primers say they have less of a velocity spread on the chronograph than CCI and Winchester. I have a thousand LRMs by Wolf, but I haven't had the chance to shoot any of them yet.

Best Wishes,

CPT T.

Graf's doesn't look like much from the outside (a bunch of large buildings) but you can go into the office and order stuff right there. They also usually have some stuff on sale that doesn't show up even in the flyers. First time I went there I thought I had a fair size order, about $700. The guy in front of me was getting a flatbet 10 ton truck loaded up and the guy behind had a 20ft goose neck.

The best part of our prices is the Aussie Dollar is pretty good against the American at the moment - 0.92 yesterday I think - and our prices keep going up.
Powder - the locally made ADI is just over $200 for 4 kilo - about 8 pound. IMR powders when and if you find them usually run $40 odd per pound.
Bet nobody can guess why I cast!!

Oh and CA our people don't believe in lube - we just take it like men

As it stands, I think I will save that $8 to $10 per thousand and just buy Wolf primers. At that type of savings I buy 2 and get the third free. Folks that I have talked to that use Wolf primers seem to like them. I don't shoot competition anymore so just as long as they go "Bang" when I pull the trigger that is all I need. My only concern is storage for long term. I still have a few Herter's brand primers that my father purchased back in the 60's and they still work, and have not had any special storage. If I can get wolf primers to last 40+ years it will be great. I will be in my late seventies by then if I am alive and probably won't be shooting much.
