Interesting… though I was taught not to do things like that.

Seems it would have to be loaded very light, otherwise it would mushroom or deform on impact.

There is a bunch of spinning bullets in ice videos out there. MythBusters did it also. First time I watched one I thought BS but after all the videos and MythBuster I am a believer.

Sort of like the Japanese bullets hitting water in WWII and the Naval "Frog Men" beach surveyors catching them. Physics and ballistics at work in the real world.

I have seen 7.62 tracers from an M-60 hit the sand berm and go into spin mode. Seems like they lay on their side, but we never tried to get close enough to see the bullet itself.

Doing that seems like just asking for a ricochet, when the round doesn't have enough power to penetrate the ice.

However, if you really want to see ricochets, watch a nightfire exercise with Marines from the flightdeck of a gator when they are shooting all tracers and you have NVG's on.

Saw it once with a .44 mag that a friend fired into deep ice on a frozen lake. Blew our minds.

My brother and I stumbled on this while out shooting. You stood on the ice and shot down at an angle of about 30*-45*. We did it (and it seemed to only work) with my 1911 and 452460 200gr SWC 's at ~800 fps. Pocked the ice and about 1 in 5 had the bullet spinning on end within a 2' radius of the pock.
