I have a few cast loads for my 8mm Mausers that work pretty well, but am always looking to try something new....

I recently got a bunch of pulldown 8mm berdan primed brass- ready to go, the owner didn't want to shoot corrosive primers. I have no compunctions against doing so, so will use the gift as a pretext to try somthing. The current experiment will be 5.5 gr of Bullseye and a Lee 175 gr cast for a very light plinker load. Also testing will be 17 gr of 4759, which works well in other calibers for me but I've yet to test it in the 8mm. Next time: 30 gr of 4895.

If worthwile, will post results.

That's a great use for those cases. A friend of mind gave me about 500 Turk cases he had pullded the bullets and powder from. I had a couple hundred 160 gr PB 8mm bullets I had got from the old Liberty bullet company. I found 6.5 gr Bullseye gave 1160 fps out of my Yugo M48 and were quite accurate. Pretty much shot those up and have on of the 8mm plinker GB moulds but haven't had a chance to cast some for the remaining 300 or so cases. Greate use for those pulldown cases. The corrosive primers never bothers me becuase I'm pretty religous about cleaning my rifles after use. Are you using th GC with the Lee? Let us know how it shoots.

I tried the 30 gr of 4895. Well, 25-31 grains to be more specific, and dacron filler. I didn't see much difference with any of them using a 170 gr FNGC WQWW bullet lubed with 50/50. All shot 3-4" at 100y. Pretty decent. Nothing spectacular.

Something of intrest perhaps...A number of years ago a fellow conducted are pretty extensive test using several very accurate rifles.....In every case he was able to get a Measurable difference...ie better groups...with berdan primed brass in a number of different calibers, all other factors being the same. As I recall he even had berdan primed 243 Winchesters.

I have had real good luck with that 175 gr. Lee.

Successful loads for me have been:
17.5 gr. 2400
12 gr. Unique
19-21 gr. SR4759

I have shot these mostly out of a Turk Mauser.
