Cast Boolit for 1894

I just picked up a nice 1894 Marlin in 44 magnum. I would like to work up a good load for this rifle. I normally use 2400 in my other 44's.

Which cast boolit do you guy's suggest for this rifle?? Or in other words which bullet works best for you??

Any recommendations on alloy?? I have a bunch of WW and normally just cast from straight WW. But I would like to get this right the first time.. Any advice is welcome. Thanks, Tom.

I have a Marlin as well. I haven't experimented too much with it as yet but starting with the RCBS 240 grain SWCGC and 2400 should be a good start. With the GC, air cooled WW should be OK but experimenting is the best part. My Marlin is the micro groove version BTW.

mines a ballard rifled P and thats the only bullet ive found it does well with. I dont know what they did with the Ps but im not the only one that has a fussy one. 44mans is worse then mine.

Yep, I now have 6 molds of every weight and size to .434". Most will do down to 1" at 50 yd's with the right load but if I get 6" average at 100 I feel lucky. One boolit put 5 in one ragged hole at 50 but would not stay on paper at 100. I still blame the slow twist.
I have tried every alloy too. Hard is better though.
The RD boolit didn't help but I found out it is VERY accurate from my revolver. It has done 1-1/4" at 100 from the old Ruger.

If I were to pick a favorite for the Marlin 1894 .44 Magnum it would probably be the Lyman 429640 GC, with a second choice being the 429244 GC-SWC. For details, see:

i've got six mold for the 44 and the one that i get the best accuracy from ,would be saeco # 429 . which is a 240 gr RNFP . this rifle feeds this boolit with out any trouble .i use 2400 and unique in this rifle
