I have read several threads on zinc. I am not clear on it.
Is Zinc bad in boolit alloy?
If bad, Why?
How does one determine the product is zinc and not hard lead?
If you get zinc in your lead can you still shoot it at target pistol velocities?

Thanks!

It is said that it will create very poor mold fillout hence bad boolits.

Way back in 1972, we tested zinc bullets for high speed pistol rounds. Zinc running about 65% the weight of lead, we got some very high velocity numbers and penetration. The problem is retaining velocity over rifle distances.
We did not find poor mold fill out, although one must run the pot temp up high. The bullets needed no lube or gas checks.

Zinc ,in its pure form (practically speaking) may be just fine for some purposes BUT when added to an alloy intended for cast boolets ,It's a disaster.
The CRAP wrinkles and will NOT fill out the mold. AND it doesn't take much to inflict the damage.

I thought he asked about Zinc (Zamack or Superdie) for casting bullets?
