I teaspoon of Goop hand cleaner instead of dawn liquid soap and a 45 case full of lemi shine cut my wet tumble time in half. When the water gets black, the cases are clean.

Goop is good stuff. I never thought of using it on cases. I will try that for sure.

I'll have to give that a try. As said above, I would not have thought about Goop.

I add 2oz. Of simple green to my wet wash with turtle quick & easy Zip wax car wash & wax and lemmy shine mix . I wash for 3hrs. (Find that is the magic time) and my brass comes out lookin brand new inside and out.
I dry in hydrater and tumble in walnut for 1 hr. that has been preped with 2 oz of mineral sprits and a shot of nu finish. The walnut treatment is only done about every 3 mo. add the mix to walnut and turn on and let run for about 10 min without brass to pre mix. This brings out the shine and adds a slick coat that makes it run thru the press easier.

drw....what did the Goop cut your cleaning time to and do your cases look new inside and out as Pee Wee describes?

Wow! That be a whole lot of work, are you cases really grungy when they go in? I tumble in citric acid with ultra dawn and water (no pins) and rinse in wash basin. After draining and while still wet I put a tiny dib of case lube on my hands and work my hands through the brass. Dry in food dehydrator. They look like new, except primer pockets have a tiny bit of carbon still once primer is removed, and they go through the dies with greatest of ease.

Yes, I use Trailboss powder and it is really dirty powder. I use this in my 44 mag, and 45 long colt loads. I shoot a game called lawn steel and we shoot any where from 80 to a 100 rounds in 4 games to 5 games. Each game is 50 min. So with old arthritic hands trail boss kicks a lot less. Easy on my hand. We like really Clean brass as we control all aspects of our loads. This is what I like to do and as I'm retired it is just part of my routine and keeps me busy and out of the momma's hair.

Yes, they are new inside and out. I have been experimenting with wet tumbling for two years and I found that goop is much faster than anything else I have tried. I tumble 250 cases in less than an hour at 60 rpm. I shoot a PPC revolver and a 45 ACP. I do not usually pick up range brass unless it is once shot. So my brass is not tarnished. It likely would take longer for tarnished, weathered brass.

I shoot brown, tarnished brass all of the time. Doesn't seem to affect anything for me. It is cleaned for a while in a vibratory cleaner with walnut media to remove any dirt and sand but it still comes out brown and goes through the dies well.

I haven't tried Goop but I have substituted auto wash and wax for Dawn. The auto wash and wax cleans just as good as Dawn but the wax component impedes the return of tarnish. Also, 1/4 TSP of Lemi-Shine is used per batch.

Pics say it all:

I would enjoy hearing of your results when you have a chance to wet tumble with auto wash and wax.

Pee Wee--
I checked out simple green. It will clean wax off of surfaces. So will Dawn. The Turtle product is made to mix with water. I am going to try The Turtle car wax & Wax with sour salt.

I checked online and there is no particular brand named "auto wash and wax."

What brand do you use or are they all the same? I'd like to try this.

I use and like Armorall Wash & Wax for the second wash after the initial one with Dawn dish soap.

Bayou52 PM'd me with his choices for "wash and wax" mix--Armor-All Wash and Wax, and Blue Coral Wash and Wax--and I picked up a jug of the Armor-all this afternoon.

I put the below brass in the tumbler (Frankford Arsenal), added some hot water, a glug of "wash and wax," about a half-teaspoon of Lemi-Shine, and let it go for an hour.

Pretty nice results--I could have run it a bit longer but I'm very happy with the results. There weren't as many suds as when I use Dawn, which was nice.

I'm sold on it.

Hi, Goose -

That's some nice results you got with that Armor All wash and wax. Yes, I think you're right when you say the brass would've gotten shinier with a bit longer tumble time. For brass that was clean when shot, and has only some carbon on it, I tend to tumble for about 2 hours. This gives a highly polished and bright finish.

If the brass was heavily tarnished, like having been exposed to the elements for some time, then about 4 tumble hours delivers impeccable and bright results.

But it's all a matter of personal preference in the end. Clean but unshiny brass shoots as good as brass that looks like jewerly. For me, I happen to like brass that looks like jewelry but that's strictly a personal objective.

Nice goin', Goose!

I put in pins, water, brass, armor all wash and wax and a 1/4 tsp of lemishine. Turn the Frankfort arsenal on for 3 hours and go do something else. My 45 Colt and my 45-70 cases are shot with both black and smokeless powder ( not at the same time). After getting them out of the tumbler, I can't tell them apart.

Wow my cases aren't nearly that shiny! Ive used corn cob and walnut, haven't seen either clean the interior of the pistol calibers Im reloading. Can I just use my hands to tumble and rinse in the sink?

Its the stainless steel pins in the drum rotating about 60 rpm that do the cleaning in my case. Hands won't do it I'm afraid.

guess I'll be adding a rotary tumbler to the christmas list.
