I don't cast, so looking to order "commercially cast" bullets in the 300/350 grain.

I understand "slugging the bore" but wondering if any one out there has an 1885 Browning has recommendations for; diameter to order / suggestions for manufacturer - part#.

Admit my "laziness" of not wanting to pound a slug down the bore or purchase a micrometer [guessing that this Brownings should be pretty consistent in dimensions ]

I have the BPCR with 8 lands and grooves. I use .459" to .460". This rifle is like a micro groove and I don't know what yours has.

I've had good luck with everything from 0.457" to 0.460" cast bullets. I suggest http://montanabulletworks.com/ .

Mine is a 1996 standard model and from the info I've gathered from the "Single Shot" guys it seems like I'm going to stick with the jacketed rounds I've been loading ["short throat"], they are very accurate and even effective…. My godson used the rifle to get his Buffalo [Bison] a few years back.

I don't have a Browning but my TCR single shot 45/70 Likes a .460" boolit. Don't think you could go wrong with that.

Not a Browning but my Marlin 1895 leaded quite heavily with .458 hard cast commercial bullets a friend gave me. My cast slugs are sized at .459 and lead much, much less. I want to try .460 to see if it goes away entirely.

Keep them .460 and semi-soft (about 14BHN). I hear the Lee hollow base mold works quite well with the 1885.

My three Miroku (Browning, Winchester) 45-70 barrels all slugged pretty consistent at .4565-.4570". I bought a slugging kit from Meister Bullet Co. and it had enough slugs included with it to do five guns. I let two other members use it and they got the same results with their Miroku barreled guns. I'd be willing to bet your gun falls right in there also. Any of the bullet diameters suggested above should work as far as diameter goes. The trick is to find the right bullet, hardness, and powder combo. Good luck.
