as I was loading a batch of ammo this morning I started adding up what each round was costing me. Counting gas checks, primers, and powder I'm spending right at 12 cents a round, if I start buying my powder in 8 pound kegs I may bring this down to 11.5 or so. I just don't know how much longer I can afford to keep this one around. D.E.C.

Imagine how much worse it would be if you were using those condum bullets at .30 - .35 cents apeice. If you need a big thumper handgun, cast is the way to go.

It's costing you a fortune!
Give it to me quick before you lose any more money on it.
I will try to suffer through the expense.

Do yourself a favor and price a box of factory ammunition. When the math is over you can say " what a lucky guy am I " I reload.:-D

Yep, the price for handguns always went up the larger the bore diameter and the more powerful the cartridge in that you bought.

The day may come where that price scale flips.

i shoot my 454,s with loads up to 1200 fps without gas checks installed with a 260 lfn and a 300 lfn with good accuracy try 8 to 9 grains of tight group for a starter , i also use a surplus # 7 made by alliant at 14 to 16 grains

I feel your pain. Maybe the kids really don't have to go to college after all.

If I remember correctly, the freedom arms loading manual had some pretty hot loads with bullseye powder, and them guns are hell bent fer punishment.
Promo powder even cheaper.
Combine with say a 260g lrn, should save you something right there, but of course
you need the money more than you need the gun so thats moot eh?

Terrible. Absolutely horrible!!
Try reloading for a .460.

Chuckle ... if you think that's bad ... try $4 for a piece of new brass, a 500 grain boolit, a gas check, 85 grains of RL-15 (or 45 grains of XMR 5744), and a Federal Magnum rifle primer. What do you have when your done ... one practice round for a .470 NE double rifle. If you want a hunting bullet for Cape Buffalo you go buy Woodleighs for more than $1 each.

Of course, you could buy Norma ammo loaded with Woodleighs at $194 bucks for a box of 10!

Well, even considering the recent price increases in primers and gas checks, the single most expensive item in my shooting is the gasoline I burn driving 53 miles to the range and 53 miles back.

I shoot a Mtn Mold 305 grain PB boolit over 10 grains unique and 2 inch groups at 50 yards in my model 83.It would be plenty good for most anything and it don't kick too bad.The brass last forever and I can dig the boolits out of my backstop and recast them.

Smart man, I was just funnin' I really don't mind the 12 cent price and my M83 loves the RCBS 45 SWC. Dennis
