Has anyone here loaded .454 Casull with Power Pistol? I'm interested in trying it because according to Quickload, it can produce very good velocities with much lighter charge weights than other slower, commonly used powders such as 2400 and W296. The problem is, I have found absolutely ZERO information about loading it in .454. I will probably just work up some loads based on Quickload data, backing off around 20% to start with, but just thought I'd ask to see if anyone here has tried it before.

I didn't find much on my Loaddata site, but did find a 270 gr. cast with 11.0 grains of power pistol for 1,114 fps. and a 325 gr. cast with 10.0 grains of Power Pistol for 973 fps.

Power Pistol is only marginally slower than Unique, so I would suspect it would work best in the .454 for low to mid range loads at best.

Just finding powder to try plus the prices keep me away.
A new store opened up town and is full of fancy guns but they refuse to supply loading equipment.
Looked at 100 CCI Blue Tag Mini Mags and they were almost $22. I don't think I will be shooting many .22's either.

Harpers Ferry Armory in Ranson, WV.
Very close to where I live but they don't want to fool with powder, etc.
Sticker shock is Gander Mountain! There is one in Winchester, I stopped in once and walked in and out as fast.
It is very hard to find powder anywhere around here.

the 454 with its small primer can be finiky when it comes to light doses of fast burning powders. It was designed for full pressure loads and slow powders. That said ive found at least decent loads with unique, herco and universal clays. So im sure you can find something with power pistol if you play a bit. ive loaded power pistol in many handguns and its probably my favorite powder in that burn range but I looked at my loading data for the 454 and found out I never tried it.

I tried a Lee 300gr cast bullet with Hi Tek coating, and no gas check (it is a GC bullet) over 15gr of Power Pistol and a Wolf SR primer and got terrible results from my Super Redhawk Alaskan. At 15 yards, they would group around 6" and I noticed keyholing. The same bullets over 22gr of Alliant 2400 would group much better.

According to Quickload, the Power Pistol load would be running at 37k PSI and 1121fps.
