Have you ever forgot to do the plunk test in a semi auto? And then come to find out at the indoor range that your boolits stick in the chamber a little bit before firing? Well, that's what I did today! With a long vacation from shooting, loading, and the like I forgot to double check all my rounds. I did however check my OAL and they are the same size!

148340

Top left group is 4.3 grain of titegroup sized to 452, shot standing at 7 yards out of a tiny 3.3 inch barrel. Top right is 4.5 at the same. And the pile on the plate is my 4.7 group that got the first round stuck. There was nothing soft and sturdy to use the front of the slide to push against and pop the round out.

Yep, as I go through life I find that my role is to show others what not to do.

Now the question remains. Do I pull them and size the boolits a thousandth smaller? Or can I crimp it tighter to possibly get a slight squeeze on the whole case? The factory loads have a tiny amount of play and the cast loads are obviously a full chamber...

I'd try seating them a smidgen deeper

smidgen?
that's about 10 thou.
I'd say your coating is making the nose too big.

The nose at the end of the brass was reading right at 451. OAL listen for the amount of powder is 1.200 and I was seating at 1.22

Pmc is the brass that I was using. I didn't measure case wall thickness however.

Remove the depriming pin from your full length resizing die.
Back the die out of the press almost all the way.
Put a loaded round in the shellholder and run the ram to the top of the stroke.
Screw the die down until it's 'finger tight'.

Do a plunk test on that round.

If it still won't chamber, keep running the die down, a half turn at a time, until a plunk test succeeds ... or the round is obviously ruined.

If you ruin that one, pull the bullets on all of the rest.

Go to Titan reloading a sponsor here and order yourself a Lee Bulge Buster. Your can run them thru without pulling bullets. You will need one for future reloads because most dies won't get the bulge out no matter how you adjust them.

I never had this problem with my 1911 until I loaded some range brass about 5 years ago. Darn stuff lacked a few thousanths of going into battery. Too many cheap pistols out there these days if you use range brass. Every single auto pistol round I load now gets checked in a Dillon case gage. Check with the case gage after you size a few pieces of brass before you load them.

I'm not sure that the cases are really bulged, just maybe a bit oversized? There's no visible bulge like I get on my 9mm reloads with j words.

I'll try the first option and then resort to Lee! Can't hurt to try what I already have first right?

I shoot machine guns and their chambers are very generous - especially the MACs. Reloading that brass and Glock fired brass had been an occasional problem until I found the cure.
I use a Lee Facory Crimp Die on BOTH jacketed and cast bullets, and I case guage every round I load. Never had (well darn few anyway) failure to feeds.

Thank you all for the suggestions! I set them back into the crimp die and gave them all just a touch more. Seems to have fixed the issue and none have smeared powder coat or lead on the brass. Plunk test pass on the lot of 10 I loaded! Back to the range I need to go now hahaha
