I have a partial box of commercial cast boolits in which each of the bullets is missing at least part of the lube in the single groove. The gap ranges from 1/16th to 1/4 inch gap in the lube of the .452 bullet. At what point is too much lube gone to shoot? Should I use these as-is, or should I tumble these prior to shooting?

You could use them as is without trouble, except that I have found the lube on most commercial cast bullets to be of limited value anyway. If you tumble lube them with Lee Liquid Alox and shoot them at moderate speeds, I think you be happier.

Seen too much of that and recovered some boolits that still had lube in spots. Makes for fun when a boolit acts like the tumbler motor.
I pick it out and replace with a good lube.

Make up some BLL with that Lee Alox, coat those boolits, load them and enjoy! You won't be disappointed with the results.just my .02 cents. Have a good Labor Day weekend.

I would use them as is.

Clean with brake cleaner and powder coat.

that lube will melt out at 125-f or thereabouts.
I'd either re-fill the grooves with something [chapstick would work] or empty them out and tumble lube.

BTDT! I sat my partially lubed bullets on a paper towel, in a tray, and set them in my toaster oven set at around 150-175 degrees. The lube melts off and is soaked up by the towels. Oven is not hot enough to ignite the lube soaked towels. I then dip lubed them in 45-45-10 (I don't like the "looks" of lube all over he bullets). Worked so well I started dip lubing, in 45-45-10 many of my cast bullets...

Good job.

If you want to remove it hot water works well. The lube floats to the top.

Thank you, gentlemen, for your replies. I'll remove the lube and tumble lube. I'm going to try 45-45-10 this time around.

Before going to the trouble of removing the lube, try tumble lubing with it in place. Works for me.
