Long time lurker. Just got back into casting after being away from it for awhile. Thought I would share some pics of my .300 Savage 99 EG with 2.5x Weaver in a Pachmayr side mount. Load is tumble lubed, gas checked, 170 grn lee flat nose sized .309 in front of 26 grns of Accurate 2495. All groups were at 100 yards.http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y460/bcmurphy63/20150827_172627_zps8qyja0ig.jpg (http://s1275.photobucket.com/user/bcmurphy63/media/20150827_172627_zps8qyja0ig.jpg.html)http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y460/bcmurphy63/20150901_100352_zpsvielsnxi.jpg (http://s1275.photobucket.com/user/bcmurphy63/media/20150901_100352_zpsvielsnxi.jpg.html)http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y460/bcmurphy63/20150901_100453_zpsyzichhmf.jpg (http://s1275.photobucket.com/user/bcmurphy63/media/20150901_100453_zpsyzichhmf.jpg.html)http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y460/bcmurphy63/20150827_162851_zpsiobtw1xw.jpg (http://s1275.photobucket.com/user/bcmurphy63/media/20150827_162851_zpsiobtw1xw.jpg.html)

Now all you have to do is get it close to the center circle and see the ribs of one of those big rabbits in the woods. Then, sizzzzzling, what that smell, it smells like supper. Fine rifles from the turn of the 19 century to the mid century era for shooting deer have always fascination for me like seeing Jane Russel in a old movie. What's the alloy?

Alloy is straight wheel weights water dropped. The old weaver has been kind of a bear to sight in.

It's been my experience that 99s work quite well with cast. And the short neck on the .300 isn't as problematic as people make it out to be.

yup, some of those old scopes can be real humdingers till they settle in! But they sure look good for that nice vintage time when wool and a little pipe tobacco smell and those funny big hot seats we all hooked on our belts. Nice gun!

What velocity and what alloy are you using in your deer loads. My only deer shooting experience with cast bullets has been in a 95 marlin 45-70. I would estimate the loads I'm shooting in the savage at about 1700 fps.

That's a good looking group and an even better looking rifle. Welcome to the Castboolits site, rife with info.

Never chronograped any of them, but guessing 1800-1900 FPS. The .358 Brushgun may be a tad faster (rifle on the left) other two are a .300 Savage with NOE 311041 clone and a .308 with the Ranchdog 165 grain bullet.

My 99 in 300 Sav. Is extremely accurate with the Lee 170gr. FP sized to .311. It also shoots the Lee 150 gr, AK slug nicely. Love that rotary mag. Both with imr 3031.

the short neck isn't an issue.
