Howdy, I am looking to get a TC renegade 54 cal. I have a spare 50 cal barrel for a renegade so will the frame interchange with out any issues? thanks for your help.

If both barrels are 1 inch across the flats, they will interchange.

Get the 54 cal and a bag of 28ga shot cups. You can shoot it as a 54 or drop a 50cal ball in a 28ga shot cup grease the outside of the wad and load it as a 50cal. Works great, loads easy even after several shots and its fast to load as the wad and ball are a very nice fit.

You are correct, they are same barrel size! Should just drop in, no issues!

Something to watch out for, when the barrel is hooked into the breech and if it cams against the stock when being lowered into the channel, it may be that pressure is then exerted against the bottom of the channel when that particular barrel is placed in that particular stock. It's all depending upon which way the tolerances ran. So, if you have that situation then the wood in the tang area is being put in tension across the grain. And that is where you see TC's develop a crack. If it occurs, most typically it will be in the curvature on the opposite side from the lock, the curve going from the top of the stock downwards and forwards to the side of the barrel channel. A crack will try to propagate from there rearwards towards the wrist. From what I've seen on cracked TC stocks I've come to think that it is mostly avoidable and easily correctable by the owner with bedding of the tang and the barrel, being a design flaw in TC manufacturing and assembly. An alternative is to adjust the hook on the breech as Green Mountain used to include in their instruction provided with "drop-in" barrels.
Any how, having recoil hammer pop the stock due to tension across the grain aint good.

Do any of the 54 or 50 cal stock tc barrels for a renegade come in a round ball twist? 1-66 rather than 1-48?

they did.... when T/C was in business. Now that Sheeite and wasteon owns T/C, they no longer make any of these anymore. S&W screwed the pooch again.

The Pa. rifles were slow (1:66) twist. If you can find one. They were flinters if I remember right.

Mike, A Pennsylvania Hunter flintlock would be a rara avis indeed. The few that I've seen were cap locks (more drop in the stock than Renegades too).

Green Mountain used to make a drop in barrel for the T/C Hawken that was 1:66 twist if you look around there might be one for sale somewhere.
