40 Caliber:
* .414 nominal base diameter
* 1.095" RN GC
* 319 to 325 grs
* Bhn 15.4 aka Lyman #2
Any ideas what rifle would use this bullet? Closest I can find - 405 Winchester using 411 to 413 base diameter bullets weighing 300grs

Possibly for a metric caliber rifle?

Possibly for a 40-65 or maybe one of the 416s. Most 40-65s are being set up for 400 grn or so bullets now but as a short range bullet it would be fine.

Data mining on the Internet, the bullet can be reloaded in .405 calibers with a bullet diameter of .4115:
* .405 Winchester 1895
* Reminton-Lee
* Ruger #1 Tropical
* The 2005 Winchester 1885 - Limited Series
* The Cimarron 1885 HiWall replica

John,
Looks very similar to a bullet I pulled from a 40-70 awhile back.
Std factory weight bullet was 330 grs as I recall.
